A cop who walks away with households after house searches

(Lanka-e-News, 2007 August 16, 5.45 PM) The owner of a house in Sanjayapura, Waidya Road, Dehiwala, an ethnic Tamil, have complained to the Dehiwala police station that a police official had stolen a mobile phone worth of Rs. 50,000 while the house was being checked.

Dehiwala police station verified the reception of the complaint and said that the investigations are carried out. The owners of the house have dialed the number of the phone as soon as they traced that the phone was missing after the search. The residents of a neighboring Tamil house say that a police official disconnected a mobile phone that was ringing and put it in a pocket while they were searching their house. The owner of the phone has immediately informed the chief of the police team that someone has taken his phone.

The senior police official asked for two half sheets to take down the complaint and the suspect police officer immediately volunteered to go to the shop to bring them. The officer has cleared off amidst the protest of the other officials and the phone was not with him when he returned from the shop.
