Aani,

Academic means both not just memorising and passing exams but as a person too. I mean coherent language skills in communication, not talking crap lke most of the eelamists.

Kotia,

I agree on your point. If the languages were taughtequally for us we would have got on well with others.

I think non-Sinhalese speak Sinhalese but not the other way round sadly. See Murali speaks Sinhalese but Sanath or Mahela cannot speak Tamil as they Sinhalese/Buddhists.

I know murali. he is in Kundasale, Kandy and he is one of my friend's brother's friend from St anthonys colllege. But when I was speaking with him, he was very poor in sinhala. i do not know how it is now?

I agree with your point anyway.

Tigy,

Do you know anything about Elan? I have not seen him. Hope he is fine.

Kotia,

Even little Sinhalese by Murali is better, don't you think than not knowing.

Jana,

I am not in love with Expatpulli but I remember him because he called me filth, and thats why he was banned by MrBrown. If you are an old member coming as new you may know him. I know some guys get banned and come back again with a new handle. Where is sweetlady btw?

Kotia and Kamani,

I agree if everyone had to learn all languages there wouln't have been any problems. Unfortunately we did not have any leaders who had foresight. We did not go through a freedom struggle like Indians did. When the British left they just handed over Srilanka to the bwesternized elite who did not know the meaning of statehood.

I agree that one Sri Lanka for all is a good idea but this should have been done in 1948. On the Tamil side too the politicians were irresponsible, made fiery speeches in Jaffna and then cavorted with the governments in Colombo.

Lots of things have happened (depriving the plantation workers of citizenship, Sinhala only, riots x3, war etc, etc). Now the only way to restore confidence and trust in Tamils is to have some sort of regional autonomy.

After that the support for violence will vanish. That is why I say VP feared RW more than MR. Can't you see how the peace was damaging to VP. I think a military victory will be shortlived and will only result in the JVP taking over the country. And I don't trust the JVP.

Once there is peace there will be economic prosperity. Then there won't be a return to the war. Look at Northern Ireland. Believe me, with private enterprise, race and religion will be immaterial, like in the USA. It is only when the government distributes resources and patronage do problems about sharing occur.

Education was an issue once upon a time. But with the availability of plenty of opportunities Uni entrance has lost it's glamour now. The same will apply to other sectors.

Look at India. We would have been in a far better economic situation had we not wasted out young and our money on this war.
