One of the good things that has happened to SLA is their long-sojourn in Tamil areas. They have learnt to work with the local population in areas like Jaffna, Vavuniya etc. with 'humanitarian concern' - whatever our Tamil 'friends' in this column may say.

It is not the instructions coming from Colombo that determine how soldiers in 'forward' areas behave, but what they have learned at 'first-hand', under the leader-ship of a concerned officer-corp. We have learnt our lessons .. and I believe our forces now go about their difficult and dangerous job, in a responsible manner (OK .. with 'humanitarian concern', using that much abused term again).

Have no doubt SLA will continue to man Garrisons in the North and the East into the distant future .. after the current fighting is over, and the administration has been handed back to the local population .. with a great deal more intiative made available to them, for their governance.

SenaM, Yesterday a 21 year old technical college student was shot and he died today - by SLA, On the 1st August a 22 year old Sathiyadevan media student was shot and killed by SLA, On Saturday a man who went to by medicine for his wife was shot and killed by SLA , On Friday a woman riding a motor bike was killed by SLA gunman, Lots of students are abducted, lots of school students have seek protection with HRC in Jaffna in fear of SLA killing them. These are not 'humanitarian concern'.. This is pure Inhuman treatment of innocent lives and the Sri Lankan government forces are tying spread fear on Tamil civilians in North and east and trying to occupy these areas.
So please.. they have not learnt anything other than to make people suffer.... come out of your lala land!

Not sure whether you are witness to the shootings referred to .. or whether even you are currently resident in SL.
There are LTTE gun-men also 'active' in Jaffna, settling 'scores' with those whom they dis-agree with.

Jafna is a 'tense' area, just now .. LTTE activists are moving around, to try to 'pick-off' any SL soldier, who is not alert. There are check points .. and soldiers will be calling-out for 'security checks'. They'd have orders to shoot .. if those challenged, do not stop. Soldiers have their duty to do .. same as in IPKF times. Our soldiers do not deliberately 'go out' to kill innocent civilians.

I think in Wanni, We don't need territory. We need LTTE.
