Ceylon Workers Congress, an upcountry Tamil trade union and political party, led by Arumugan Thondaman, a Cabinet rank minister in Rajapaksa`s United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) on Thursday said his party was withdrawing its support to Rajapaksa government due to political differences.
Mr. Arumugam Thondaman and his three junior ministers have tendered resignations, a CWC source told media in Colombo Thursday evening.
Rajapaksa government came to power with the support of extreme Sinhala nationalist forces, the JVP and the JHU, the all monks party.
Two Upcountry parties, the CWC and the Upcountry Peoples Front led by Periyasamy Chandrasekaran joined the UPFA government a year ago, in August 2006.
Two prominent members of the CWC had earlier crossed over to Rajapaksa government.
The CWC, the Indian origin Tamil workers trade union, was formed in 1950 by the late Soumiyamoorthy Thondaman, as an outgrowth of the Ceylon Indian Congress (CIC) which was formed in 1939.

| How many seats does the govt have now? JVP and JHU will not let this govt collapse. They will give life support at the end, but the cabinet has to shrink which is troublesome to newcomers from UNP. |

Now Thonda has been qualified to become the deputy leader of UNP. M group has only two seats. Ranil will need to sign another MOU with Thonda.
JVP is very happy as they can put more conditions on the government. Their next condition is to capture Wanni.

Keeping house clean and nice is one of house owner's priorities.
Interesting to know the number of cwc MPs.
It is very important GOSL adequately treat CWC, they are the ones, who keep hill country away from terrorism.

Thinda's father also played the same game..
If someone point the finger at him, he starts crying...
BTW, Basil should not have insulted the CWC.
On the other hand there is Chandrasekar clan, who are waiting to bring LTTE misery to the Tea Estates.
He may shredding some feathers to bargain... |
