Military convoy hit by land mine
Tuesday, 24 July 2007 - 9:00 PM SL Time

Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels set off a powerful roadside bomb in northern Sri Lanka on Tuesday, targeting a military convoy and killing at least 14 people, police said.

The blast went off as the victims, almost all off-duty soldiers, travelled in a convoy through the town of Chettikulam in Vavuniya district, where four paramilitary police guards were killed earlier in the day, police said.

`Our information is that 14 people were killed on the spot and several others were taken to hospital with injuries,` a police official in Vavuniya said when contacted by telephone.

He said the convoy carrying soldiers going home on leave was travelling from the northwestern town of Mannar when it got caught in the mine blast. There was no immediate comment from the military about the explosion.

`We suspect that the bomb was placed on a parked vehicle and someone may have detonated it using a remote-controlled device,` the police official said. `As the convoy passed, the blast went off.`

The Mannar and Vavuniya districts had been the scene of recent fierce clashes between government forces and Tamil Tiger rebels.

The latest attack came as security was stepped up in the capital Colombo amid fears of bomb attacks by the separatist rebels.

The moda terrorist supporters in this forum will be saying this is set up my the government, right? Because apparently the claymore mine found at Nugegoda, MBRLs in Thoppigala, truck bombs..etc..etc were all planted by the government. Or are they only planted by the government if they are unsuccessful attempts??

He said the convoy carrying soldiers was travelling from the northwestern town of Mannar when it got caught in the mine blast.

all media report 14 srilankan army dead , and army shot 9 civilions in retaliation.
but this Lanka newspaper put it as ' killing at least 14 people' , we tamils dont regard sinhala army as people. they are pathetic criminals who distroyed our homes, schools, temples and distroy our way of life.

LTTE suffers major setback Soosai wounded, son killed
Leader of the Sea Tigers, Soosai, was reported to be critically injured in an explosion in an uncleared area south of Mullaitivu few days ago while his five year-old son and his body guard were killed, Wanni sources revealed.
Sources said on July 18, while Soosai was busy inspecting a Sea Tiger exercise on the Nanthikadal lagoon, south of Mullaitivu, a boat located next to the boat he was standing on had exploded, killing his son and body guard.
Soon after the blast, Soosai had reportedly been admitted to the Ponnambalam Hospital in Kilinochchi, they said. On Saturday 21st, the funeral of Soosai?s son, identified as Shankar, took place witnessed by a large gathering.
Reports say that following a heated argument a clash occurred between some cadres loyal to LTTE Leader Prabhakaran and some of Soosai?s men.
The LTTE however denied any such incident had taken place, and claimed it was just a rumour being spread.
Only damn Shanker, Soosai gone to hell is not enough for us.. May God send his damn father Soosai to hell soon.. That is great help for the country..
