One-year-old baby, mother wounded in SLA shelling in Mannaar

A mother and her one-year-old baby were wounded in artillery fire by the Sri Lanka Army from Thallaadi SLA camp around 6.00am on 20 th July.

One-year-old Dusmithan Anisdan with injuries in his hands and his 30-year-old mother, Sagayamma Anisdan, wounded in throat, in indiscriminate artillery fire by the SLA around 5:30 a.m. towards civilan settlements in Aalankulam and Vaddakkandal in LTTE territory in Mannaar.

Tortured student in critical condition

A student abducted by the SLA 17th July night, and released near his home on 19th July in Kaithady south, after torture, has been admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital in critical condition.

Shanmugam Sanjeevan who was tortured by the SLA during the day he was kept in detention is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, a youth threatened to death by SLA, seeking protection for his life with the Jaffna HRC, was placed in the protective custody in Jaffna prison. This youth is the fifth to seek safety due to death threats from the SLA, within this past week.

3 abducted, 2 reported missing in 4 days in Jaffna

Three civilians from different areas in Jaffna have been reported abducted by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops in separate incidents, Tuesday night and Wednesday noon, according to complaints registered with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office by relatives. Meanwhile, two persons have been reported missing in Jaffna since Saturday.

SLA troops in a white van forcibly abducted Sivalingam Prabakaran, 34, father of 2 children from his house at Mu`l`liveethi in Ariyaalai in Jaffna, Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.

SLA and paramilitary abducted Shanmugam Sanjeevan, 22, a college student, from his house at Kaithadi south at night, on 17th July.

Armed men in a white van abducted Ulahanathan Nithiyananthan, 34, the father of 4 children from Alaveddi west and an employee at Panadaiththarippu market, at Thoddiladdy while returning home after work on 17 th July his wife said in her complaint to the HRC.

She also had mentioned the involvement SLA troops in her husband`s abduction in her complaint.

An Internally Displaced Person (IDP), Gnanachandran Puviharan, living in the Naavaanthurai IDP camp is reported missing from 14 th July after he had left the camp, his family members said in the complaint.

A resident of Puththoor north, Ponnuthurai Karunanithi, 53, has also been reported missing since he left home from his house to Achchuveali Saturday, according to complaints made by his relatives.

Decomposed body of disappeared youth found in Kayts

Highly decomposed body of a 18-year-old youth who disappeared from Kayts in Jaffna district recently was found by Kayts police Wednesday in Sinnamadu area, sources in Jaffna said.

The body was identified as belonging to Sebastianpillai Ramesh, also called Prakash, by his father.

Kayts district court judge, Mr M Thirunaavukarasu, conducted investigations into the death and directed the police to transfer the remains to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

Youth found dead in Valikaamam

Koapaay police, notified by Neerveli village officer, recovered the body of a youth with gunshot wounds from Cheeyaakkaadu Hindu cemetery at Neerveali in Valikaamam east Wednesday and handed it over to Jaffna Teaching hospital.

Residents of Neerveali on finding the body reported it to their village officer.

Mallaakamam Magistrate Ms. Sarojini Illankovan directed the police to have the body identified.

Tamil civilian shot dead in Thampalakaamam

Unidentified men Tuesday evening shot dead a Tamil civilian, Saamithamby Jeevan, 35, at Jaya Nagar in Thampalakaamam division in Trincomalee district, sources in the area said.

Thampalakamam police are conducting an investigation into this incident.

The body of the victim has already been handed over to the Thampalakaamam government hospital for identification and post mortem, sources added.

SLA abduct 2 Tamil fishermen in Mannar

Two fishermen were abducted by the SLA around 7.00pm in Mannar on 15th July.

The two fishermen were identified as Charles Kumar aged 23, and Kumaraswamy Ratnasingham aged 36, father of seven children, both from Bastianpuram in Mannar town.

Both were riding on a motor cycle at that time of abduction.

Four bodies found with gun shot injuries in Thavasikulam, Vavuniya

Blind folded bodies of four youths were found with gun shot injuries at Thavasikulam in Vavuniya on 16th July. But it`s confirmed that the bodies not belong to the people in Thavasikulam.

It`s believed that these four people have been killed elsewhere and brought to Thavasikulam.

One of the bodies is of a boy around 16 years of age and the other is of an elder man age of around 60 years. The other two bodies are between 30 to 40 years old.

Family man shot and killed at Navalar road

A family man was shot and killed by the SLA around 2.30pm on 15th July at Navalar road in Jaffna.

The victim was identified as Balasingham Balachandran aged 31, father of a child.

He was shot and killed by the SLA while he was riding a motor-bike to his mother`s house.

Two civilians killed in Thenmaradchi including a woman

Velayuthapillai Pirabaharan aged 30 was killed while he was on his way to his house in Madduvil east from Manthuvil on 15th July. His body was found in Manthuvil as his legs and hands bound together.

Meanwhile, Arunasalam Lathagini aged 25 was shot and killed in Nunavil west around 2.00pm on Sunday. Lathagini worked in a shop. She didn`t go to shop on Sunday and went to owner`s house.

She was killed by the SLA while she was going to the owner`s house. [THE END]
