Yesterday, I listened to the MR's talk in Window Media Player.

What I am wondering is whether LNP is Mr. Brown's part time happiness ?.

Q. The final question. You said something about leaders having various styles of governance. You have worked under Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe when he was Prime Minister. Now you have worked under Mahinda Rajapakse as well. Of the two, whose style appeals to you most?

A. That's a very good question. President Rajapakse s style appeals to me because he has given a free hand to his ministers to decide. As far as our ministries are concerned, there is no interference. Those days, whatever we do, we had to carry out the policies set by a certain group of people who are supposed to be 'friends' of the leader. These 'friends' determine the policies of the government. I don't see that in the Rajapakse government. We are free to run or ministries, implement the policies and get results. Today, we don't have a president who goes to a country to promote business for his friends. But once upon a time, there was a leader who went to foreign countries on state visits to promote business for his friends. So this is the difference that I see. Today we have a more approachable leader, who will listen to people. Once upon a time we thought president Premadasa was a dictatorial leader. But he used to listen to what we had to say. When the MOU was signed between the UNP and the SLFP, seventeen of us got up in the working committee and said, 'Okay, if we are going to sign an agreement with the SLFP, lets be part of the government and help finish off the north and east problem'. Only three or four spoke against it. After that what happened? The four became the majority and the seventeen became the minority. That is the difference in the style of governance that I am talking about
