As we all know duty free vehicle permits are given to MPs and provincial council members. These are totally tax free unlike ones given to government staff grade officers where they have to pay at least 45% tax (more than 100% if a diesel vehicle is bought) including VAT and other levies.
Some people enter politics at provincial level just to get these permits and sell. Some of the permits are sold to Rs. 5 to 7 million and big businessmen, drug dealers and other crooks buy these from politicians and drive luxury cars and jeeps around while ordinary people are having a hard time.
In the final analysis govt money (in terms of lost tax revenue) is given to corrupt politicians and business crooks. What justice is that?
What JHU did is totally wrong. They may need funds for party activities but they should have set an example by not taking these permits. People are sick of politicians and it seems that JHU is no different. Just because they are monks do they have a right to rob people's money like this? What is shocking is that they have the audacity to say that these permits were sold to get money for party and nobody can question the acts JHU monks.
We never expected JHU monks to be hypocrites like JVP. They came to politics to put things in order and make our country a 'Dharma Rajjaya'. If they do bad things not expected from them, they should be ready for the criticism.
These JHU monks were attacked in parliament and one of the monks got his testicles crushed by a govt MP. They never had courage to ask the president to remove that person from the cabinet if he wants their support. JHU monks simply joined the bandwagon of MR without any protest. So they are no different to other opportunistic politicians in the country.
People who are accusing Ranil on what he said should first get an apology from those who attacked JHU monks in parliament. RW is the most attacked politician in the country for the last 50 years and he was accused by both JVP and JHU as 'kotiya' (a LTTEer) Did he file any law suit against anyone? He had reasons to file many but he as a politician accpeted in his stride.
If JHU monks enter politics they should be ready to face any criticism. That's part of the game of politics. You can not only dish out criticism but should be ready to take as well.

Hi there you Islanders, behaving as usual no doubt as typical islanders, thinking of course nothing exists beyond your shores! Step out a bit and see, there is much, dont I know, dont I know, ha! haa!

You guys are the limit. Here is a case where buddhist priests are where they should not be, if we understand what renunciation is all about. They are now in parliament. If so, my simple mind tells me, they enjoy no privileges on account of the yellow robes they have draped themselves in, presumably to gain the extra yard in advantage by flaunting the fact besides covering their nakedness and nothing else.

Ranil having christian connections is neither a qualification nor a disqualification. He has every right to believe in whatever religion he likes. Besides it is simply, beside the point. The point is, these yellow robed men did something they were not supposed to, by Law. They sold their car permits. And ranil and every parliamentarian has every right to ask why?

I do not know who R.A.D. Sirisena is, but it would be not a bad idea to repace the 'R' with an 'M' instead. And as for the 'priests', they cannot have the cake and eat it as well. If they chose to become parliamentarians, they must be ready to take the rough with the smooth and not shield themselves behind the robe when the heat is on. The robe is really for those who believe in all and not just a segment of the population - however big - who claim the right to this nation. The robe is for men above class, creed, race and religion. Such are the true buddhist monks. These chaps are not. Well done Ranil for having disrobed these imposters. Let's have a few more Ranils in parliament.

The more Ranils we have, the better for the country.
The more MRs we have, the more doomed we are.

I never knew that you were so close to Ranil that y know whether he has balls or not. I thought you were not one of them. Good lord, it is time for you to come out of the closet and admit once and for all on this forum that you are a 'guy' who likes to do it with yellow robed thugs (buddisht monks). How do you like it, with some banana or kiribath on top of it.

The car is bought for Rs 3.5bn therefore it has to be a A class Mercedes-Benz and not a SLR.
