A youth in Jaffna was threatened by the army. He sought refuge with the HRC and was locked up for his safety. When released he was shot dead.
Youth released from HRC protection shot dead by the SLA inside Jaffna HSZ
A 19-year-old youth was shot dead by unknown gunmen along Martin Road, inside the High Security Zone of Jaffna town Friday morning. The victim, Subramaniam Jeyanthiran, had earlier received death threats from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and was held in protective custody of Jaffna prison through the Jaffna Human Rights office. He was released from custody on his own request only recently.

During last few years he had given many controversial supreme court decisions to satisfy the Executive President's political needs.

In the HSZ where the youth were shot dead SLarmy cleansed of LTTE by continuous cordon and search.
Any LTTE suspect or any youth the army consider young enugh to join the LTTE in the future are hunted down. |
