Troops thwart LTTE offensive: high terrorist casualties- Vavuniya
High LTTE casualties, and congested enemy communication pleading for immediate reinforcements and casualty evacuation were observed, as military troops whacked a fresh LTTE pre-dawn offensive in the FDLs at Tampanai, Vavuniya, today (July, 14). According to area military sources, the LTTE offensive lines were driven further inwards into the non-liberated Vanni area.
Vavuniya military officials said that clashes erupted as troops retaliated to an early-hour heavy LTTE mortar attack launched from the non-liberated patches north of Tampanai area.
One soldier was killed and 12 others sustained injuries in this successful action to repulse the LTTE, reports from the Media Center for National Security said. Troops of the SL Army are now consolidating their defences in the Tampanai area. According to field sources, initial observations showed the terrorists had suffered high casualties both in those killed and injured.
Defence sources believe the LTTE offensive which had less potential was as strategy used as a springboard by its Vanni leadership to stimulate the outfits' deteriorating morale and with the loss of its strategic fortifier 'Thoppigala', in the east.
Thampanai is located approximately 30kilometres west of Vavuniya.
Leaving aside the hilarious misuse of the English language, the real truth of the matter is buried within the colourful bovine excreta:
