Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma has directed all officials of his Ministry to travel only economy class when going overseas on official business.
Alahapperuma told The Island that it was the practice in the past that officials travelled first class when going overseas and this had cost the Government enormous sums of money. He also said that with immediate effect he had stopped the practice of hosting seminars, workshops and press conferences at five star hotels. Instead, he has instructed Ministry officials to choose state institutions for all future gatherings to order to save the unnecessary expenditure.
He said the time had come to economise on public funds as statistics have shown that a majority of state institutions squander money on official seminars and functions. `The policy of austerity should be the hallmark of every state institution` the Minister said.
`People are burdened with the high cost of living and ministers should set an example by cutting down on expenditure. State officials should work hard to resuscitate the ailing economy,` he said.
Alahapperuma said that strict instructions have been issued to the Secretary of the Transport Ministry to stick to his directive on all expenditure.

It is wonderful that Dallas has replaced Mangala in Matara...
Mangala builds an office for SLR 110 million... and Always travels First class...
Mangala's bossom buddies like Tiran Alles and Ruwan Ferdinandz have nothing to do with Matara... |

You know business travellers and dignitaries travel first class, so that they are well rested in order to get to work as soon as they arrive. But in this case I guess he is correct, these blighters don't do anything but shop anyway, so no need for first class travel! |

Dallas:
Is this the Minister married to the supper Vocalist Pradeepa Dharmadasa??
Mr Minister, your ideas are appreciative and cost cutting in deed. Only thing is when these ideas come in to practice, to what extent they be PRACTICISED.
Plundering Government assets has been a very old political fashion in Sri Lanka politics too. Its that much absorbed to Sri Lankan politicians' born marrows that without plunder of government assets there is not politics.
However Dallas, you had set your self an example in the past politics erenas too, hope you will do something workable for the general public.

| Hats off to Dallas. Seems to be the only one in the fat cabinet who is keen to improve the lot of the masses and not himself. |

This fellow is well-known for cheap publicity stunts. He was living in USA for about 4 years came to SL about 2 months before the presidential elelction in 2005.
Since then he has travelled to USA back and forth more than 15 times. From where this money coming for this innocent and shining exmaple minister? All ministers in SL are corrupt to the bone. Nothing to cheer as people of Kamburupitiya know that this fellow did nothing to that electorate. |

Guys don't fall for such crap over and over. This is just for show. What they do is quite differnt from what they say. It is only a fool who will take our politicos seriously. This is first class crap. Be it MR, Dalas, Mangala, Rohita, Milinda, they are all birds of the feather. They are taking the poor people on a long haul roller coaster ride while sucking their blood slowly but surely.
Just take a cross section of the population and see how much they suffer daily, particularly because of the war which MR brought upon the people of slanka single handedly.
Health, education, transport, public service, etc etc, all in a total mess.
Yet the those baboons have the nurve to come on TV and talk to the people.
What people should do is to 'stone' politicos where ever possible like they did not long ago when they stoned MR's brother Chamal.
