Dear Astro,
Of course, learning Tamil by Sinhalese is possible and as it happened, many Sinahalas living in areas, where there is significant Tamil speaking population can at least understand the language. The problem is, for the last thirty years the mixing of two languages have been frozen. The reasons are obvious.

Sri Lanka's Hindu King

Soem people are extremely mentally challenged, they try to understand the ancient Sri Lanka in todays terms.

Some people want to say that Rawana was tamil and his name was Ravanam.

Others want to say that eveyone in SriLanka was tamil and we are invaders.

No one remember Yapapatuna talked ELU and not tamil or Sinhala. Whole Norht and East had ELU or Sinhala names and later tamils converted those names to tamil names.

Look like forgetful mahavamsa mindset.

Summary:

SLFP and UNP discovered North and Eastern provinces.

LTTE invented Tamileelam!

This is an easy method to teach English in SL with an example distinguishing the difference between two words.

Hindu king Devanampiyatissa (246 BCE), who ruled from Anuradhapura in the north-central province of Sri Lanka

Sinhale people do not want to accept the historical facts...Indeed, many so-called Sinhala kings were really Tamils.... they may have converted themselves to Buddhism, just like SWRD, RW, etc did...

These fools uttering nonsense today did not do anything to explain these facts to the Sinhala people....
