Moratuwa is far better than pera in engineering

i object!!!!!!!!!!!

any way i know the sytem has its faults, but the basic idea was to give a equal playing fiels for the youth in the rural areas...
becouse of this it is true that number from places like jafana, col, matara were reduced but dont forget at the sdame time time number were increeased from the places like vanni,batti,monaragala..
as a matter of fact the total number of tamils entered in to the unis were increased bcos of this system

Rasak

I was graduated from the eng fack in pera, and in my batch over 1/3 were tamils and still these wetamils were crying foul...

It is not about TAMILS it is about the system..if you feel the system is FAIR then it is fine..
May be if they went on results you might have had 2/3 Tamils..just an example..
Pls don't be always angry with Tamils..look at the System..is it FAIR!That is all

IN UK Universities they give the students an offer based on their progress in the Mock exams..Normally you apply to 3 or 4 unis and each will give you an offer and you can accept it once your results are out..The clear objective is stated when you get the offer..the best get into the best UNI..

well may be for SL this is the best to satisfy the majority..no complains

See standardisation was introduced to reduce Tamils entering University same as Colonisation. But at the the moment it's not affecting Tamils as earlier. Reasons

1) All the wealthy Tamils educate their children in foreign Uni's
2) Sinhalase are doing far better in education than 70's
3) Muslims also doing far beeter.
4) There are other avenues where you can get experience and qualifications

But at the moment it does not have any particular effect on any race. Berty please note

Galle Duke

I am not saying there is a problem with the system..

U must understand !! like rasak said a student from MATARA will feel beter with this system compared to a student from Jaffna or colombo..

My question is..who is meant to be in a UNIVERSITY?

The best of the lot or Chance for everyone not based on results!

u take a pick..and i will live with it

Berty anna,

U cant tell exactly that students from rich go to village and showing low marks... it is not happening if you look at the entrance marks... Kegalle and some other district are having highest marks for the university entrance. As far as I know that is giving benefits to Tamil students... Because mulativu and some other districts in N&E having the lowest marks for university entrance. But most of the students from those districts are studying in Colombo or Kandy. So they r getting more opportunities. Now the government stooped moving to another district for A/L. They are considering last five years where the student studied. Also You and me know for the rich people they can give foreign education to their children like some of our ministers and LTTE leaders r doing!!!!

hey man that is totaly wrong, in my batch, they change the whole system to get some tamils in to the moratuwa(still there is a pending court case for dis) and i was 7th from gamapaha and i was chosen to pera(only 6 from gamapaha,8 from col, and 7 from kalu wre selected to moratuwa....hah talk about discrimination)
but i agree moratuwa has beter facilities and teachers than pera
