According to Foreign Ministry sources Britain is pressurizing the government not to attack Killinochchi and Vanni. The sources say the pressure is applied on Sri Lanka government by the British officially as well as through unofficial sources.
British High Commission in Sri Lanka and also authorities in London have been involved in the pressure campaign and it is understood that government of Sri Lanka has been warned unofficially that all Tamils living in the UK would be sent back to Sri Lanka if the government acts without adhering to their request.
Security Forces have launched the final stage of the exercise to take the whole of Eastern Province under their control. There is only a small area in Thoppigala jungles that has to be freed. Government spokesmen had stated that the North too would be liberated after the East had been freed from terrorists.
