Monday, 25 June 2007 - 7:29 AM SL Time

* We are ready to discuss matters, says Mangala
* JVP too to announce politicalfuture
* TNA unable to predict consequences

Former Minister Mangala Samaraweera who is spearheading the SLFP Mahajana Wing yesterday responded positively to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe`s invitation for them to join forces with the Opposition in the political fight against the government.

Mr. Wickremesinghe, at a recent public rally in Kurunegala, invited ousted Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Sooriyarachchi to join hands with them to fight against the autocratic nature of the government.

Asked to comment on the matter, Mr. Samaraweera told the Daily Mirror yesterday that they were willing to discuss issues with the UNP as the main Opposition in Parliament. ?We are ready to discuss matters with the Opposition Leader,? he said.

Mr. Samaraweera said the basic policy manifesto of the SLFP Mahajana Wing would be released this week for discussion with other political parties before arriving at a final conclusion.

?We are yet to finalize this basic document which includes our proposals to develop Sri Lanka. Hopefully, we can submit it this week,? he said. In the context of the new political developments taking shape in the country, the JVP is to also announce its future political strategies at a news conference on Wednesday.

JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Wimal Weerawansa said they were unable to reveal their strategies before the scheduled media conference.

Meanwhile, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) saw the new political situation as being the result of the peace process being put on hold.

TNA leader R. Sampanthan said, ?I will only say the present political turmoil in the country must be largely attributed to the peace process being put on the back burner and a military solution being given the utmost priority.?

He said he was, however, unable to predict the consequences under these circumstances.
