| How can Sinhalese get together and solve this problem when people like MR cannot stick to their words, remember MOU between UNP and SLFP. People of this forum may not agree with this but i have seen it again and again RW has maintained one stand when it comes to this ethnic issue , that is to solve this by negotiations. Unfortunately Sinhalese greedy politicians like Chnadrika, JVP and JHU did not allow RW to do that. It is sad that we all seem to forget that extremism of this nature can be addressed only through giving Tamils some hope. But trying to rubbish what the international community say and trying to disregard the core issue, will not take us that far . D0 not forget this war is very costly and destructive and it is the Innocent Tamils and Sinhalese who suffer not the diaspora or elite in Sri Lanka. This Ar tile is interesting and sensible. |

To the members of the minority parties present, the President's sarcasm was palpable and they were to come out of the meeting and discuss among themselves that the APRC process was dead in the water, a message some of them were to also later convey to members of the diplomatic community.
Interestingly, though the President was to say at the meeting the SLFP proposals were not his but that of the party he leads, it was insisted, nothing more than District Councils can be offered by way of a solution.
This statement of Rajapakse was in sharp contrast to his earlier pronouncements that the SLFP would accept a consensus report by the APRC but at Tuesday's meeting there was a complete change of track with the President insisting it has to be district councils and nothing more.
'All you minority parties worked against me. I campaigned for a unitary state and won. Therefore the maximum I can sell to the south is District Councils,' the President said.
