Robins,
I am not disputing with you on giving opportunities and being proud of being British etc. All I am saying is if one compares to the original country to be malicious then that is to do with some issues.
For me I don't mind working in the UK for sometime and go back to SL for that reason I don't need to cuss the country I am native too.
My point is if we have issues we need to sort it out in a way that is possible mate. I have not attached to any political party for that matter I don't get any special privileges. But I feel its good to work for the country of your origin to make a contribution and develop it. I can stay in the UK and become a rich man but my focus is not just to make money and to be rich only but to be productive to a society for I feel I must.

Robin,
I will tell you why, this country provides opportunity for everybody, look at the asians, Luxmy Mittal is the richest man in the UK, Gulam Noon, and thousands of millionaires in every part of the country, proves despite the mourning it is one of the best country in the world to live in!
Well there is a truth in that statement. I accept that. One of our batchmates at Royal is a realy rich guy in UK. His name is Suran Gunathilake. He got the oppertunity to make money because he got his qualification from UK happend to be in the UK.
Cheers

Pera,
Let me get to your point on educational qualifications and jobs in the UK. Yes, if you are unqualified then its real slavery (washing stuff, work in a shop, petrol station etc). but if you are smart and young educated, then its a real boon. I think our lads must also learn the language properly to communicate effectively. What I gather here is our lads/lasses are qualified butfail to impress during communication, perhaps the accent puts them down.
With the recent LTTE terrorisms there are mass exodus of tamil youths especially in London area, and all of them are either unqualified or little qualified with poor knowledge of English and they work for fellow Tamils who own shops, businesses etc, where they even encounter issues and stab each other like you said before.
Those who well to do I assume people like our friend Robins can actually make a better living by achieving their goals.

Robins,
I will tell you something else that you can think about, why do you think these Indians Pakistanis and people like you live in the UK when you have the freedom to go back to your own countries?
What baloney you are eating today? At least in the weekend have a change of meal.
Immigrants are arriving to the west mainly to get economic benefits... They come from all countries including the west. Some folks are genuine political refugees... but some others sell not only their country to get in but also consider selling their mothers.
I have no issue with those who do it, did it or not but that's the bitter fact.
When (not, if) leaders in the caliber of Mahathiar Mohammed, Lee Kwan Yew get power in my country, Sri Lanka's resources would be seen from a different angle, to be used to reach highest economic standards... and at that time there would be even westerners arriving in the country to get rich.
In case you are not aware, my dear friend, right at this moment huge number of western 'economic' refugees are skillfully and quietly earning fat salaries and unbelievable perks in the Middle Eastern countries and third world countries, in the guise of advisers, specialists and so on. I know of truck drivers who worked as Bank Managers! Again, no issue.
What are they... not economic refugees?
What human rights records some of these ME countries have? And would you be surprised if I tell you I know of some folks from UK living for decades in the ME? And, ironically some of them claiming that these ME countries are more peaceful than UK!
$$$$$ Talk.... We listen.

Your assumptions are all wrong, I am seriously involved in business and also lot of other things which I wont talk about here back in Sri Lanka. I really want Sri Lanka to sort out our problems and become prosperous we have every ingrediant we need for that except political stability.
I also have too feel for my Tamil people who are attacked by their own racist gvts, there are people like you and lot of my sinhala friends who are powerless and voiceless to stop it or change it. That leaves the Tamils with no choice other than the obvious choice they have.

Instead of this why don't' you sing the usual song:
onnu... rendu... muunu....
Sinhalaa Buddhist.... Sinhalaa Army...//
Out of our Tamil Homeland...
Our Homeland is north - south and East - west//
we wanna a separate cage in the NE
Tamils are unique... They are different//
They are born with dicks and kitties tattooed 'Tamil'
Sinhalaa Buddhist.... Sinhalaa Army...//
