President, where are the murders who were to be captured in two weeks?
(LeN-2007 June 22, 7.40 pm) The IGP and the special police teams that were appointed to find the culprits of the murder of two SLRCS voluntary workers has yet not been able to get any breakthrough into the murder, even though 16 days have gone by since the president ordered the IGP to uncover the murder in 2 weeks.
At a discussion held with the participation of SLRCS assistant permanent representative Al Pathjiko, Chief Representative Toon Vanderhoon, Director General Nevil Nanayakkara, chairman Jagath Abeysinghe on the 5th of this month the president said murders of aid workers is a serious concern and therefore ordered the IGP to arrest the murderers in two weeks.
The president said that this might have been carried out by a faction that intends to uneasy the government before the eyes of both international and local communities. Though the president agreed during the discussion to get the assistance of a foreign group of investigators to uncover the murders, the president is yet to appoint any such group.
Condemnation statements were issued from all corners of the world including from the UN head quarters and they demanded the murders be properly investigated and asked the government to directly get involve in its investigation process.
On the 10th of this month the prime minister called on a media briefing where said the government claims the responsibility of all murders and abductions that occurred in the recent past and that the government regrets those incidents and said he was amazed as to how the abductors and killers of the two SLRCS volunteers managed to take them to Ratnapura from Fort when there are several check points island wide.
