I am reading all the things you guys are writing.Of course unemployment is high in SL. One reason our people wouldn't take a smaller job (status quo) but same people can go to another country and become dish washers, road cleaners,janitors etc. Funny ha.
Expats living outside compare SL life to their standards. Believe it or not we may have money but most of expats I ran into are not happy. They are too busy making money than enjoying the life. In SL you go to a poorest house and they seems to happier than western people.
Go to SL and stay for couple of months then you'll see the real life rather than staying in a hotel for couple of weeks and take a flight back home. Sri Lankan may have a harder life but same time I finding most of them find a time to enjoy their family,friends and go to a religious place. We expats are the most unsatisfactory people in SL.
End of the day we are the sorry group. Yes people are enjoying but still every average man want to leave the country if he gets a chance.
If you go and ask a average sri lanakna who earns 25,000 to 40000, and offer him to go and work in UK/USA/Aus as a labor , definitely he will take the offer. He will just leave his happiness and take the offer cz of MONEY, which is so important in sri lanka to survive. Go and tell a village person that he can go to dubai or Maldives he will take the offer.

You are Exactly right. It is the GREED that is ruling everywhere.
That is why LTTE is killing everybody and moderate tamils are screaming every where just for political demands. |

to mke up for the heavy losses. |

I agree on what your saying but think what is the reason behind it..Take a Tamil family, they have many reasons..Let me not talk about others but talk about myself. I am married to a burgher and after the 1983 riots i was forced to leave the country simply cos i wanted to give my Son a life. So many Tamils went out as refugees and some with money made it easily. The reason is to give their children a life and hoping sl will be a better place to get back.
working in a kitchen or pumping petrol was better for these people rather than worrying about living in SL.
after saying that I am not sure why a sinhala Family will leave the country other than for two things
a) They have an offer that they could not refuse to work abroad and to earn some money
b)They are not happy with the way SL is ruled and worried about their kids welfare.
Tell me why would Gothabhaya go to U.S and worked at a petrol station..don't you think it is better to wash a dish that to rob or cheat!!

UR right!! we all know the saying 'NOTHING LIKE HOME'
Life is not what your used to back home..Sri lankans are so friendly that i just wanted to get out of Hong Kong the first day i stepped in..what i learned in HK was so shameful at times to mention..There is no respect for another human being..u become rude like the Chinese etc.etc..
However the bottom line is this is not the way most of the Sri lankan Choose to live but somewhat forced to choose!
