As usual the sales reps of the sole reps and the Batalanda chapter agents were wasting time and energy unnecessarily.
COLO
COLOMBO: The Defence, Public Security, Law and Order Ministry categorically denies as utter falsehood the news appearing in a yesterday?s English daily that the Ministry has made arrangements to recruit 50,000 new members to the Security Forces according to a directive by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, states a press release from the Media Centre for National Security. The news item further says that an official of the Defence Ministry has disclosed this information.
However, the Ministry emphasises that no high official or any responsible officer attached to the Defence Ministry has given such information. The Defence Ministry declares that this news is a total fabrication and totally denies it.
The Defence Ministry condemns the publication of such falsehoods to mislead the people while the Security Forces have taken steps to ensure the security of all communities, giving priority to National Security.
In this context, the Defence, Public Security, Law and Order Ministry appeals to all media not to embarrass the Security Forces by propagating such falsehoods.

Angampora,
I read your response to my question on the number of desertions much later. I had written 150,000 and 70,000. As many stupid idiots like you do - not surprising you changed the figure to 50,000.
What can you expect from a sinhala slut than a grunt! Thank God not all of them are except that they are now present in larger degree in the ruling govt! |

| It is true that we need more troops to safe gaurd the country. But the problem is where we find money to maintain such a big military force. I suppose the best thing is to encourage volunteers to join the forces. If goverment can introduce new incentives I suppose many young people will join the military forces. We can't maintain a big regular military force and the ratio between regular forces (Army, navy and AF) to volunteer forces must be 50:50. Though we are with this war for over 25 years unfortunately volunteer force personnel get step mother's treatment from government and their employers. If volunteers join a force they get salary only for the first two months from the military force and then they have to choose which salary (civil or military) they want to get until they stay in the military force. On the other hand, civilians serving in military forces are treated badly by respective employers. However, other countries like Australia, US, Canada encourage volunteers knowing the advantages of volunteers. I think GOSL must think this option and encourage volunteers rather than recruiting 50,000 soldiers for regular foeces. |
