Mangala & Sripathi cross over to Opp. Benches forms a new political wing
(LeN-2007 June 19, 7.00 pm) Former ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathi Suriarachchi crossed over to the opposition benches this morning, before the government presented a supplementary budget to parliament to obtain approval, for 6 ministries exceeding 650 million rupees.
They sat in the front row of the government and speaking here Mangala Samaraweera said that they arrived at the decision since they cannot adhere and agree with the government's moves.
Today-65533 s parliamentary session drew high attention of the public as the JVP too for the first time was scheduled to cast their votes against the government. So for the first time the TNA, JVP and the UNP were voting against the government simultaneously. The constitution says that if a government fails to establish a financial act then the parliament should be dissolved.
