It was not the religious leaders who condemned the violence but it was that Bellantara Temple High priest.

This catholic Bishop Gomis and others just opportunists. Catholic Church in the North/N-W/E has always been the mouth piece for the LTTE with all those paid coolie NGOs
and they together have been internationalising the whole thing for people like Gaja Lakshmi Paramasivan cashing on using ltte as a vehicle for her personal gains in an alien land.

As for Prez meeting Erik Solheim, latest is that they have discussed safe passage out of the country for the LTTE leaders who have taken the tamils nowhere for over 30 years
but only brought misery to those living in SL.

Erik Solheim is also worried that there is going to be a EElam formed in Norway & he is not considered for its presidency.

I get the feeling that another round of talks will take place very soon. Both will try to get a upper hand before they meet again. This nonsense cannot go for another 3 decades. Both sides have suffered enough by loosing young sons and daughters.

I know war if a great time to make money. That is what these politicians and the terrorist are doing. We are barking at each other here and these guys a having a whale of time with Tax payers money and international aid and LTTE is extorting from the innocent hard working Tamils. I have heard from my Tamil colleagues and friends how they contribute to to the coffers of the LTTE every month like a prayer. These families are scared and they are contributing their dough unwillingly. It is a very sad situation for both sides.

We were Talking about strong leaders or Political leaders who do not fear and make decision for the people and PEACE in SRI LANKA (not in U.S)..

something on Dudley/Chelvanayagam Pact

Mr. Dudley Senanayake and Mr. S.J.V. Chelvanayagam met on 24-3-65 and discussed matters relating to some problems over which the Tamil speaking people were concerned, and Mr. Senanayake agreed that action on the following lines would be taken by him to ensure a stable Government:

1. Action will be taken early under the Tamil Language Special Provisions Act to make provision for the Tamil language to be the language of administration and of record in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

2. Mr.Senanayake also explained that it was the policy of his Party that a Tamil speaking person should be entitled to transact business in Tamil throughout the Island.

Mr.Senanayake stated that it was the policy of his Party to amend the Language of the Courts Act to provide for legal proceedings in the Northern and Eastern Provinces to be conducted and recorded in Tamil.

3. Action will be taken to establish District Councils in Ceylon vested with powers to be mutually agreed upon between the two leaders. It was agreed, however, that the Government should have power under the law to give directions to such Councils in the national interest.

4. The Land Development Ordinance will be amended to provide that all citizens of Ceylon shall be entitled to the allotment of land under the Ordinance. Mr. Senanayake further agreed that in the granting of land under colonisation schemes the following priorities will be observed in the Northern and Eastern Provinces:

(8) Land in the Northern and Eastern Provinces should in the first instance be granted to landless persons in the District

(b) Secondly - to Tamil speaking persons resident in the Northern and Eastern Provinces and

(c) Thirdly - to other citizens in Ceylon. Preference being given to Tamil citizens resident in the rest of the Island.

We had strong leaders but not strong enough to resolve the problems in time!!! before it got out of hand!!

I wonder if Indira Ghandhi was alive, would she have achieved something? She was really strong, almost a dictator thats how my Indian friends describe her!

BTW

There are a lot of TV programmes on CHina over here, very intersting, and I am sure you are witnessing the changing CHina as it happens, interesting times!!
