Rauf Hakeem MP fears that the SL police, SL AF and the paramilitaries extend their net to MUslims to abduct, extort and kill,

Hakeem also said that abductions and extortions were a growing industry in Sri Lanka and after targeting the Tamil business community, the Muslims too were now being targeted.

He alleged that there was police inaction that denied the victims any justice and added that this was the first time since the 1960s that the situation had deteriorated to such levels that minority communities were feeling compelled to flee the country. Excerpts:

Nepusiva,
Franklyn, those racists idiots have gone walkies. It is our fault we should have taught those idiots the English Language. See what are those Modayas doing with their little knowledege.

Hello Smart Alex,
Thanks for teaching English for us. We had forgotten to pay your dues I guess. We'll send you AIDS for that.

Hi Saman,

We will kill all the LtTE purushayas, then we can enjoy the Demala Muffin peace fully.

Yes, I think LTTE can be beaten, but that has to be with honest fighting. In Lankan politics the fighting has been fickle all the time and there have been questions on the Lankan political strategy on war, because war has never been fought with the real enemy on bulk of the occasions or have been reported badly or/but with plenty of discrepancies.

I take that during a war one cannot eliminate innocent victims, but we have seen either some loopholes or bad strategies in the fighting that resulted far higher number of innocent victims than the projected or presumed.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Yes, I believe that LTTE can be beaten and a valid political solution be implemented for the problem in the country.

Indrarajah,

Sinhalese lived in this hell SL for the last 30yrs is more
than an eelam.VP ta Jayawweva

In all honesty much of the Tamils who live abroad have very little interest in Sri lanka than those who actually live in Lanka. The diaspora would never return to lanka and invest in developing projects/infrastructure.

You guys are just slinging mud at all the Sinhalese for all the wrong reasons.

One must not forget that the percentage of Sri lankan Tamils out side the country is significantly considerable than the ones in there, what does it indicate? It clearly shows the Lankans who are not bothered to live in their own country. So what is the actual point in clamouring for a piece of Land if you are not going to live there? Beside Prof. Munasinghe has predicted that by 2040 or thereabouts the land in those areas be submergered and those who dwell would have to flee to safety, where would they go to then?

Just think logically and answer me please!

JRJ,
I believe that LTTE can be beaten and a valid political solution be implemented for the problem in the country.

The ruling SLFP proposed District/Village Councils within the unitary state. If you want a 'valid political solution' then there is no need to hide behind LTTE at all. The govt can table proposals now and see where LTTE stands.

The need to beat LTTE first arises only if the govt wants to revert back to pre-1983 era in which anti-Tamils riots could be used to check and sabotage any Tamil protest. Of course in that scenario the state of affairs will be as usual and the govt will continue with its racist policies.

Nirupama,

I am not saying what the government doing is correct. But you have to realise that LTTE has a significant backing by the world media that the GOSL has difficulties in defeating them for various reasons.

We know the Indian factor and how that is influenced to keep this tug-of-war situation dragging for 30 odd years.

The Indians have always been playing the game foul to assist their own country. The tables were slightly turned when Rajiv was assassinated by the LTTE, but still due to TN pressure the Indians are of a soft view to LTTE.

My understanding is LTTE do not want a political solution- period! why I am saying that is due to various reasons the LTTE know and the tamil diaspora know explicitly that there won't be any chance of carving out a significant part of the country by any political party unless the Indians poke their fickle fingers into it and destablise the whole country SL.

LTTE cannot be satisfied with any legitimate compromise because such compromise would only provide more headaches to Pirapa which he doesn't want to have, right!.

As we all know the war of attrition means in a few years time (I'm not sure how long) the LTTE would find it hard to sustain this, thus will peter out as a military/terrorist force in those areas.

My question is how we can convince the moderate Tamils for a feasible solution by eliminating the terrorism. I was of the view of PCs and still believe thats a good start.

But one must buckle down to thwart the LTTE terrorism first to have any meaningful solutions.

Franklyn,

I am afraid I cannot support your view, first a ruthless terrorist organisation have no way of peace-period!

They may have started with the aim of liberation, but it turned out to be fascist organisation.

beside all tamils are not LTTE supporters, there should be democracy. Thats why holding elections to elect your member is important, I have told this before and I still say that.

Its nothing supporting GOSL, its just against the LTTE you have to remember that. beside you label monks as the problem, but remember they have a right too because they represent the majority's religion. I am sure you will come back and attack me, but thats the truth. You must listen to other people's views too. Unlike tamils whose democracy is snapped up by the ltte by decimating democratic Tamil parties.

Sinhalaya is not the one in hell. Innocent Tamil in north and east the one who displaced thanks to VP. If Eelam is so good why they have to come to Colombo.
