Gotabhaya indirectly claims responsibility for abductions

(LeN-2007 June 16, 11.00am) The recent interview by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is very revealing in that he has made a tacit admission that abductions were taking place but found fault with how it is termed.

He claimed in his interview with the BBC recently that the West practices what he called 'double standards'. 'All the militaries do covert operations,' he said. 'When the US does operations they say covert operations. When something is in Sri Lanka they call abductions. This is playing with the words'

So essentially the Defense Secretary, who worked as a petrol pump attendant in the US at one time, admits that abductions are done but they are justified on the basis that they are covert military operations. He takes exception to the term 'abductions' and wants it to be called a covert military operation.

How similar these activities, taking place in Sri Lanka today, are to those carried out by the American forces are probably best known to American Citizens like Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. But the accepted definition of abductions given in the Oxford Dictionary 'take (someone) away by force or deception' is what we go by. Furthermore, whatever way we term it, the act of taking someone away by force is morally, legally and ethically wrong - then again the Defense Secretary must be having his own way of defining these words as well.

The recent incidents & history has shown its pointless we Tamils to depend on IC or Sori Lankas approach. Once the Independent state is declared, the real thuggery strats & then the UN will get involved.

the world is aware of that point thou!! it is not too late for the ltte to declare UDI as they holding a considerable area under their control. there is some *IFs* and *BUTs* that holding things back. these days ,almost the govt is dancing to the tune of the IC. at this time , the ltte should not declare UDI. it will back fire. while we wait for the IC to recognize us, we too should listen to them a little bit without giving up the arms!!

we all know how the ltte compromised the east for the sake of VALID CFA.

time will tell!

Your eminent scientist (anybody with a PhD is a Sceientist, if he helps the Terrorist State he is eminent) was only helping the murederous Rajapakse Regime to kill more Innocent Tamils. These Religious Leaders where were they during those last two odd years when this corrupt and murderous regime took power ably supported by Murderous Mad Monks and Stupid JVP and in the process killed about 4,000 mostly Tamils. In Western if one is killed it is a big news but in Banana Reupublic of Sri Lanka 4,000 odd Tamils have to be killed for the so called Religious Leaders to voice concerns. There is a Big Buddhist Monk in Kelaniya Temple was supporting this murderous Rajapakse Regime and in the process told off poor Wckremasinghe. We have to assume that silent of the Mahanayake Theros is an approval for this Rajapakse Regime to continue kill innocen Tamils.

Since December 1, 2005 Tamils are abducted and killed each and every day. At the rate of 8 abductees 1560 Tamils are disposed. Look at the Sinhala racists, what they come out with both in this forum and abroad?

Even the IC hasn't realised the full impact of the agenda of Rajapakses, that is to totally anihilate Tamils.

Even the token works of advice to the extremist president to check aon the perpetrators of the crime and take steps to halt the HR violatios are barked at.

International Commission of Jurists, expressed serious concerns, after a meeting with the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Geneva on Thursday. 'There are serious questions about the integrity, credibility and thoroughness of the police investigations,' said Secretary General of the NGO comprising sixty of the world's most eminent jurists, in a press release Friday. Mr. Nicholas Howen urged the Sri Lankan President to order renewed, impartial and thorough investigations into the killing of 17 Action Contre la Faim aid workers in Moothoor in August 2006 and the killing of five young Tamils in Trincomalee in January 2006.
