| This is stupid. This guy mainly deals with roads, I think what we need is Mass transit in the form of a subway or sky trains. but that'll never happen, at least not any time soon. |

I'm not sure, but even if they are still there they are definitely not in use.

That's a sorry excuse if you ask me. Where did all the billions go? Ok a huge chunk of it went towards the war effort, but what about the rest?
Once a money has been spent on a system, the system will need to take care of itself (i.e by charging the public).
People here are used to getting things for free, that's not a good thing. Look at our education system, difficult to reform because it isn't generating any funds to keep it fresh and innovating to bring the best for the public. |

I think corruption is worse than the ethnic problem where roads are concerned. Most times the funds are allocated proper but the contract is given to a party that knows nothing about road construction, then its given to a subcontractor who again subcontracts to many and each person steals a bit and not even a fair portion of funds allocated goes to the road. |

In a civil society there should be basic fundermental neccessities such as free education till university, Medical, public Tranfortation at resonable rate. Then SL will produce very efficient workforce which can do wonders and become a developed country. The economy should allow workers to Make enough money to live a comfortable life for everyone and live a happy life peacefully. this does not mean like in western countries where the capitalism controls everything. Then life becomes mechanical.
we could have a balanced policy which will work with our culture and the way of living.
As far as i am concerned only thing missing is the political will for change.
i agree with Ruchira that Ethnic problem has to be solved first.
Other wise nothing is possible. It is like in a family, if there is domestic violence, then you can not even call it a Family. |
