This govt and previous govts didn't & still don't have a one clear policy with regards to road and highway development, and as result years of neglect and poor road maintenance have resulted in low travel speeds, very poor surface conditions and Traffic congestions. This has also hindered the spread of economic activities and development in regions other than the Colombo Metropolitan Area. Current conditions and standards of the roads are inadequate to meet rapidly growing freight and passenger traffic at the moment, forget about the future. Inspite of the substantial increase in traffic volume there have been insufficient investments for construction of new highways or widening and improving existing roads. Almost all the national highways are two-lane, are unable to carry the current volume of mixed traffic - pedestrians, bikes, bullock carts, 3 wheelers, vehicles. This together with the lack of side lanes and paved shoulders. Whos to blame RDA? I guess we can start with the transport minister. |

Walter came out with a good honest idea.I am not sure when
Walter came to USA.Hope not just a couple of weeks ago.If
so I welcome the patriotism.Good job,but if you lived in the US for long yet the idea is great but too late.When we spent billions of $$$$ purchasing fighter aircrafts,weapons,multibarrels,kickbacks when $=Rs.53/=.
Now conrete roads! when $$$$ = Rs.111/=.Gas Rs.110 per ltr.
Anyway we tamils appreciate walter for this idea without
wtiting killthe tamils,weapons down,no peace talk,bomb NE etc.
If we had a couple of more walters having this type of thoughts SL will be a paradise to live in. |
