I revealed the about the gains in thoppigala battle this morning before the defense article...
ltte was given a pretty much surprise dose of small troop ops by the commandos of army ...
the terrain is highly advantageous to the ltte who is the defender and it was an uphill task capturing the last Strong point which troops captured not with large scale frontal assaults but by small troops spacial ops in a surprise sweep...
the final stages of the Battle has begun ,but the forces are preparing to face a pitched Battle with the ltte cadres in the coming week or two... |

On a another note folks the thoppigala battle is a different kind of a test for the commandos and other spacial ops troops of the sri lankan army...
we have a pretty much home grown, unique special ops training programme, the success of which was visible for everyone to see starting from sampoor to vakarai and now mainland vanni...
the sri lankans the world over could be proud that we are today one of the best elitist special forces training countries in the world not only in regular unconventional battles but also in deep penetration operations against what is probably the world's best trained and second best financed guerrilla outfit which even took on the worlds thirds largest army head on,against all odds, with remarkable success and lived to tell the tale...(mind it that the ltte did not have a sea wing and air wing or arti during those times...it was with sheer will and its cadres training that it had its day)
one aspect of the training of the commandos and the special forces which was never tested was the kind of battle which we see in thoppigala in extreme hostile mountainous terrain in which the regular tactics change drastically and a different set of approaches and fighting methods apply.
with the success at thoppigala we have proved once again the mettle of our programme and the mettle of the troops involved...
p.s- a number of countries have requested assistance for their special forces troops from the sri lankan armed forces...some have been worked out and some temporarily put off due to engagement issues as the forces are fighting an ongoing war...
Lt Gen fonseka designed and trained regular troops during the peace process on special ops in an overall training programme named the spacial infantry training course...
the troops trained in the programme render an invaluable contribution in the present operations in the north and east along side the regular special ops troops of the army and the SBS of the navy...
it is this battle preparedness thats paying off for us now... Edited By - specialforce - 9 Jun 2007 13:21:15 GM |

I'm with you on that.
But we all should know by now how determined LTTE is to destroy us and to what length they would go to achieve that goal.
We have to first be around... before considering any other option.
Do they leave any other option open for us? |

Vini before accusing the ltte lets take a look at oursleves...what have we done to instill confidence in the tamils...
I'm no ltte sympathizer ull get it you go around my space ,but what about 83...? what about the jaffna library...? what about kokkdichollai...?
have the successive govts given confidence to the Tamils that they are a part of sri lanka and would be protected by it...?
what compensation have we offered for the brutality of 83...? have we apologies as a nation...? don't you think that they deserve at least an apology...?
Tamils would have loved to be a part of sri lanka they still do...a friend to Sinhalese and to share our country our air and by and large be a part of our country and culture...there are hundreds who still are close to Sinhalese but as whole would want to live separate for their painful memories of 83...i know many with such sentiments...
was it they who faulted in the first place...? what did the jrj govt do when Tamils were murdered in streets by the thugs...? did it behave in such a way that would have given the Tamils a sense of belonging or confidence that its a part of the people of sri lanka...?
please try to answer these with your consciounce...and then perhaps ull see what i and a thousands other forces personnel see when we interact with them and listen to their story of pian, humiliation and sorrow... Edited By - specialforce - 9 Jun 2007 14:13:16 GM |
