British Foreign Office Minister Dr Kim Howells will visit Sri Lanka on Monday.
He will meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the recent developments in Sri Lanka, the British High Commission said yesterday.
Dr Howells will also meet government representatives, opposition leaders and civil society representatives to discuss the effects of the continuing conflict in the country, it said.
This trip follows Dr Howells`s visit to Sri Lanka in February when he met the President, and visited the Ampara district to see the impact of the conflict on local communities, the statement said.

A plea by a concerned citizen to the British PM
Please see with eyes to what happened to Sri Lanka, and listen to the peoples voices without at random and not the ones selected by the govt. to talk to you.The real people are the Tamils, Muslims, Sinhalese and other minority
citizens of Sri Lanka.
If you think that the govt. is misusing funds, kidnapping and killing innocent people, depriving freedom of speech,
using thugs to collect ransoms for businessmen etc.etc.
Have them shot in public !
This is the most we (concerned citizens) ask you. |

Tamils are evicted from Colombo by the racist GOSL even though Tamils are also Lankans.
If LTTE wasn't there Tamils would have been evicted from Srilanka and it is true.
LTTE did made mistakes in the beginning but now the Terrorist GOSL is the worst human rights violating body. |

Dr Howell,
We know you supported this president with the false hope of a negotiated settlement of the 5 decade old problem created by the Sinhala Ony Act. Political sulution is a mirage as far as the Sinhala polity is concerned. If a country cannot find a political solution in 50 years it must be crystal clear that the leaders are not willing or ready for it.
To understand this president you must look at his past especially his recent actions. He was the one who presented P-TOMS in the parliament as Prime Minister, an agreement between his former Govt and LTTE to jointly administer the Tsunami funds to rehabilitate the victims of all three communities. Abandonment of this agreement was his first priority once he sworn in. Then he signed an MoU with the main Opposition Party to jointly find a political solution. But before the ink dries on that agreement he sabotaged that MoU by offering ministerial posts to 17 MPs of the UNP.
He violated every term of the CFA which would have enabled the Govt to maintain peace that existed for four years prior to his election victory.
As you and British PM said you must explain to this president how you achieved peace in N.reland by talking to IRA by treating both parties to the problem as equal partners.
The president makes so many promises about peace talks and a political solution but we urge you tojudge him by his deeds and not by his words.
You have the trump cards and tell him you are prepared to use them unless he abandons his military adventure and start talking at once. More importantly he must be told that this time he must honour any agreement he may sign than tearing it away.

The British are beginning to understand tjis president. Dr Howell Mp said in parliament that he was prepared to review tyhe proscription on LTTE. I think Dr.H has got a seriouis message to this extremist president. PM Tony Blair has also written a strong letter to him. That along with other reactions must have created a different climate in Sri Lanka which can be seen from the apology the chauvinist PM has made. |

I'm a bit skeptical about the whole thing thou! deportation took place many times in the past.
