Anizam,

One more thing - the way i see it, MRs whole political life is in the Hands of RW. :) :). THe Longer RW clings on to the UNP leadership, the longer MR will be presidnet. The moment RW stepts down/Or is kicked out - MRs demise will follow shortly.

Oh yes... those are saul mates..

FREDDIE,

I seriously have no motivation to reply to you my friend. I cant see any reason why we should go around the same circle again and again. Ani, I was not born yesterday. We all can clearly remember the lethargic attitude Ranil had when LTTE was violating the CFA in braod day light. OK, forget all those CFA violations, can you remember, once Thamilselvan threatened not to board on to a SL Air Force Helicopter if the SL defense personnel demanded to check his baggages. That was the dire situation our country was in at the time.

If you seriously try to reduce all those spineless acts to tactful steps taken according to a so called Master plan laid by a loser like Ranil, I would rather judge you through that than Ranil himself.

Yes, I have no intention to reply. However, I have a question to ask. I am not asking this to know the answer. But I am more interesting to find out how you will fit your answer to that so called Master Plan.

You know how Ranil was welcomed by the fellow journalists at the wedding of the chief editor of Virakesari. Why do you think they have welcomed him in such a manner. Are the chief editor of Virakesari and his friends against LTTE, or are they not aware of such a master plan?

Anizam,

yes I think no ponit dragging this issue further but just few points before concluing.
One thing you did not get my point correctly may be.
Actually we all waiting for a dramatic change in the energy generation in the coming years. Presently undergoing Fusion technology one such thing. Because all these petroleum, coal and other sources will vanish in the near future and these new technologies will take over.
There is no doubt about it, but the problem is time.
I did not mean that Coal is the future energy source for the whole world.
I was talking about our beutiful country Sri lanka.
At present our demand growth rate for electricity is about 10%. that is roughly we need to add 200MW capacity plant to the country every year. But you know during the past we could not add plants according to that rate due to various protests and other reasns. Today the on going two projects Upper Kot and Coal plant will join the system in another 4 years time. By that time the capacity defficincy will increase by another 4x200=800MW. So how are we going to manage there. Power plants cannot be built over night !

Are we going to ask our countryman to wait till the new technology comes?
can we build such big capacity WIND ,SOLAR, BIOGASS, FIRE WOOD, Small Hydro Plants ??.
connecting to neighboiring countries(plans are under away to connect to India and fora future SAARC grid , but will take time and our neighbours are also not reliable sources)

So there we need to fill this gap with mass scale generating plants and there the only viable option for countries like us without any pet resources is COAL. (We have already finished our major HYDRO sources, remaining hydro capacity is less than 400MW)
Dont worry, today Coal technology is well advanced and emissions can be controlled up to more than 90%. For your interest you can read about clean caol technology in the world coal institute web site.
But if we were lucky in secure petrolium there in the Nijabim we can forget about Coal. Other wise we need to rely on coal. It is a must.
Today due to this lack in permanent generation capacity we spent lot of money on temporary power generation which is a heavy burden to the economy and also causes lot of polution. But none of the environmental saints in the country do not see that.

So I think whether we are in the financial or industrial sector we all as sri lankan professionals we need to understand the reality of the energy crisis we are facing today which is , to me, second only to the terrorist problem in the north and east.
I typed this in a hurry may be you find many mistakes, but hope this will help you to see the reality of our energy crisis.

(meantime seeing your improvement in the postings I have decided to withdraw the title I conferred)

Dearest Anderai:

I cant see any reason why we should go around the same circle again and again.

I agree with you hear. We have gone through these issues before and our respective positions havent changed much. We will only be wasting our time going through them again. I am the one who started this thing with you this time and appologies for that :) :)

but i want to respond to two point which you brought up..

1. Ani, I was not born yesterday.

But you certainly seem to think that I was born yesterday right??? :) :)

2. I have a question to ask. I am not asking this to know the answer. But I am more interesting to find out how you will fit your answer to that so called Master Plan.

It never ceses to amaze me how you like to pick and choose the news items that fit your pre-conceived notions and then take that and twist it even more to try and hammer home your point. :)

It also amazed me as to how you put so much emphasis on a RELATIVE MINOR issue of RW being at a wedding of Pro-LTTE editor, and try to make that look like a RW-LTTE pact. However, the LTTE boycotting a Presidential election and electing MR when everyone thoguht the LTTE was against MR - means nothing? :). YOu would like to have us believe that it meant nothing, or its a joke or you explain it away by playing with words. :) :) As i said earlier - you really do think i was bron yesterday ha? :) :)

As for the reason - it could be many. Almost every politician maintains links with the Media. Now we are finding out that MR maintained links with the LTTE throught Tiran Alles. RW meeting with this editor could mean alot of things. May be it was just a good friendship. May be he is trying to get greater access to the LTTE and pay a Billion Rupeese so that the LTTE will NOT boycott the next elections. I dont know. When RW was in power - media like the Virakesari and tamil net, was highly critical of RW. Today RW is not in power and cant do any harm to the LTTE. I really dont know.

Let me end our discussion by saying this - NOT every tamil is a LTTEer. Even Many who support the LTTE, dont support the LTTE because they really believe in the LTTE. They support it because of their anger against the SL govt and some of the SInhalese. I have many tamil friends who tell me the same. Those very same tamils who support the LTTE would NEVER EVER live under the LTTE, becauser they know what the LTTE is about.

In the same manner Mucha - people who dont share the same believes as you are NOT traitors and want to divide the country. We can still support a peaceful approch to solve this issue and still want a united country. Yes it is different from the hardline approach you advocate but thats doesnt make you ONE BIT more patriotic than us.

cheers - the weekend is here.
Freddie :) :)

Gajan99 :

Yes i understand your point about time factor for SL. its just sad to see. WHen i was in Elementary school - we were taken to see the Vitoria dam being built. At that time we were talking about exporting electricity to India. 20 years later...

Politics apart you and i can have a very useful discussion about energy. :) I think energy is the MOST exciting industry to be in at this moment. A lot of things happeneing. As i said im not an energy expert but in the financial field we are in - alot of money is being thrown into alternate energy.

There isnt one day that passes by here with out talking about alternate energy. Just today there are two major articles on CNN..

http://money.cnn.com/2007/06/14/magazines/fortune/nrdc.fortune/index.htm?postversion=2007061511

http://money.cnn.com/2007/06/14/markets/alt_energy_investing/index.htm?postversion=2007061506

One day we should have a long takl about energy. But not today. Its friday and im ready for the weekend - going out of town.

I sincerely hope SL also embraces alternate energy and its implemented soon. HOPE!!

PS: SO is the Coal power plant in Norochoolai going ahead?

Anizam,

thanks, yes this is a very hot topic we need to discuss always. In fact the energy projects are among the largest invesments in the financial record.
We as sri lanka need to more involve in the alternative energy sector, at the moment the attention is not sufficient.

Regarding Norochcholei, according to my collegues there, they have just completed the infrastrucure and a very satisfactory resettlement programme (that is housing and other facilities for the people moved).
They are about to start the main construction works and now the main contractors are mobiliing to the site. I hope if things goes smoothly we will have another 300MW added to our grid in 4 years time, which is the largest single addition after Victoria with 210MW.
(Also I heard that 'cross' guy is trying various tactics to bungle the work but still as he has no good support now, felow cannot do much)

Have a nice week end!
