Heavy fighting, bombing continue
Military puts Tiger death toll at 52 while LTTE claims it killed at least 30 soldiers
By Sunil Jayasiri
The Air Force yesterday continued to bomb Tiger mortar locations in Palampiddi, Vavuniya while ground troops engaged in clearing operations in Mullikulam and Kalmadu after heavy fighting in the area for the past two days, a military official said.
Air Force?s Kfir jets yesterday morning destroyed two Tiger mortar launching pads at Palampiddi in the Vavuniya district, a senior Air Force official told the Daily Mirror.
He said following clear direction from the ground troops, the jets pounded these locations, which were heavily damaged due to the bombing. He said there were reports from the ground troops about major LTTE buildup in the Palampiddi area, where fierce fighting was taking place since Saturday.
According to the official, the Air Force conducted two sorties over identified Tiger locations on Sunday as well. In the morning jets targeted a LTTE gathering point at Puliyankulam, north of Omanthai and the same day evening the SLAF was able to bomb three mortar locations in Palampiddi, causing heavy damages to the Tigers, he said.
However, both the troops and the LTTE did not give exact casualty figures in the previous day?s fierce battle in Pompemadu. The Media Center for National Security yesterday said so far security forces had recovered 13 bodies of soldiers while several soldiers were reported missing. It said twenty soldiers were injured in the clashes.
The Media Center puts the LTTE death toll at 52 and said a large number of Tigers were injured due to the heavy retaliatory fire of the military Edited By - Cham7 - 5 Jun 2007 21:08:24 GMT |

When IPKF were in SL 70% of the Indian army wasn't aware they were in SL. When they died they are cremated in mass on top of each other. Imagine who would have been made the bulk of the Indian forces. Poorest of the poor from India. The elite Indian group never ever treated these poor peasants. They were treated worse than their commander's dogs.
Now MR's time. SL also has a big army now. Majority are poor village idiots. They joined the army to live for some time. They would die of hunger even if they didn't join the army. You wait and see in future SLA will select only some officers from good family among the dead and send the rest back. Edited By - shan - 5 Jun 2007 21:22:51 GMT |
