No Revy, that's not going to happen. It's better to lag economically than deviding the country. So we would keep fighting till we learn to live together. Pretty sad.
Revy I think I told you not to write anything that makes sense, Now Shan is really confused. |

Hmm so obvious, yet why does the SL government then not do the one thing India fears...give the Tamils Eelam, and let both our nations (Tamil and Sinhala) prosper together free of war and free of Indian medling?

Revy:
Next choice for the whole world really.
It is good to see you after a long...long...time.
Any way, we should not expect the IC to change over night.
At this moment The response by the global community however is very rational. It is important that we in our ignorance should not misinterpret the stance of the international community as in any way sympathetic to the suffering of the Tamils.
If indeed such a sea change is to occur, the Tamils should know it can only come about by the blood, sweat and tears of the Tamils themselves. |

Tigress,
shanA
thats not true! all countries want peace in lanka, specially India. so they can expand their businesses in lanka.
I've to disagree with you. SL is a small country so it's easier to develop (with right leadership) and Indians will not have much say once it develops. Western countries would want to invest here. We can be a pretty good economic hub for South Asia with our harbors and air ports. SL people are not that stupid either. I believe India has much to loose than to gain. Anyone can argue that point but that's what I think. |

Shan,
India doesn't give a cent about Tamils or Sinhalese or Muslims. It opposes Tamil Ealam not because they love Sri Lanka, that is because they've a State called Tamil Nadu just above NE of Sri Lanka. India would want this war to continue and SL to lag in development. It's best interest of India to keep SL down economically. It's pretty obvious.
Lot of people do think like this. But,
See what's happening now by ongoing war - China, US are entering the region - is it good for india ?
Tamil sufferings in SL is a concern to india not bcos it loves tamils but it is problem in TN.
India opposes Tamil Eelam not bcos of TN, but india is worried about the other part of remaining SL might become an anti indian base. ( similar to N / S korea )
If Tamil Eelam is created without the help of india, The remaining SL part does not have a strong reason to switch to anti indian. To tell you the truth i would happy to see india playing a minor anti LTTE role, bcos that is actually helping the creation of Tamil Eelam.
It's best interest of India to keep SL down economically. It's pretty obvious.
May be true 30 yrs ago. Modern day international economy is opposite. If SL has good money india can get some share of it. Simple as that.

I'm confused that what is not clear here. I'm really confused why you are so confused. There will not be any TamilEalam, SL will not allow it and India will not allow it. Is that difficult to understand? |

SL is a small country
The same reason dictates that the prosperity of SL will have a immaterial effect on India.
SL people are not that stupid
Kill your own!
Elect thieves to rule them!
Keep dumping money in a black hole, hoping to get a military solution to a political problem!
Let religion interfere with politics!
Cannot balance a budget! |

Tigeress19,
ShanA is somewhat correct in his assumption. It was never in the interest of India to see SL overtake her in socio-economic growth. Like the 'deep sea' ports, airports, free trade zones, etc.
why would india be upset? thats wrong. whether SL economy is good or bad, there isnt enough consumers for foreign investment in comparison to India.
on top of it, Indian working forces are lot more skilled than the SL ones and the Indians have the upper hand on language skills too.
please blame your past n present govt's policy makers!! |
