A cat burglar who made the Ragama General Hospital his habitual hunting grounds relieving nurses of their cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables by creeping into their living quarters, was arrested on Wednesday evening in the act.
After stealing a mobile phone worth Rs 12,800 and Rs 2000 in cash he was hiding under the nurse`s bed until he got an opportunity to vanish with his loot. The nurse unexpectedly returned to her room and let out a big scream. The burglar jumped out of the window of this second floor ward only to land with a big thud and in the process broke his legs.
He was immediately rushed to the accident service where he is now warded under police guard.
Inquiries revealed that on Vesak Day he had crept into the room of a nurse in ward 13 and stolen Rs 35,000. On seeing the nurse, he had escaped but on Wednesday the victim identified him in ward No.5 where he is undergoing treatment
