[ He said there are some people in these lodges with no appearent reason to stay in colombo]
The youths are abducted and tortured or killed. Auto drivers are hunted down in Jaffna. Where can they seek refuge? They have given up their jobs and are in Colombo, India and also in Navala[itiya and Matale. Some have surrendered to the HRC to be locked up safely.
If they are forcibly sent back to their villages their lives are in high risk as paramilitaies and SLAF have blank cheque to do whatever with them. The president denies there are human rights violation though the disapprearances and killings are well documented by HRC which ia also manned by Sinhalese. |

Saintclair,
Your anger is understandable but paper guns don't shoot but prompt your powerful enemy to finish you off. It's advisable not to propose anything that you cannot deliver. |

The situation in Jaffna is deteriorating to the extent of children dying of mulnutrition and youths not safe anywhere.
'Prices keep increasing weekly.' Rosy Theyagarajah told IRIN. 'A fixed rate on commodities is not maintained and shops sell goods at whatever price they want,' she complains. 'Very soon our children will be starving as we no longer have money to buy food.'
Rosy Theyagarajah has been living in Jaffna for the past 32 years and says the current situation is the worst she has experienced. She says some children are now suffering malnutrition. 'Even during the 20-year war between the government and the LTTE, we had food to fill our stomachs,' she says. 'But today we have nothing. My husband is out of work and my children only get one meal a day,' she |

that is what I and my friends were talking. These people dont have security at all in their own villeges and why police is trying to send them back. either they should be arrested, if they are tigers, or let them be there. |

The catch word here is 'pressing public necessity.'
laliths, the catchword here is actually 'past history' now lets look at what the US did to make up for this crime shall we?
The evacuation and internment of Japanese Americans during World War II finally have made their way into our history books. The injustice of these events perpetrated by the United States government has awakened the conscience of Congress enough to induce it to appropriate redress to the victims. The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 began providing eligible Japanese Americans with an apology from the U.S. government and $20,000 in reparations for the loss of liberty and destruction of property suffered at the hands of U.S. officials.
So are you telling me Sinhala Lanka is a backward nation only just catching up to the 1940's USA?
Should we expect such an act from the terror state in 40+ years for all the Tamils who were displaced and lost lives and livelihood?
Yeah didn't think so... Edited By - Revy - 1 Jun 2007 18:55:41 GMT |

Dumindak,
If the security is the only concern these people can be given special ID cards like those displaced in Vakarai prior to resettlement. Otherwise the govt is making a terrible mistake leaving no option but force Tamils to go separate. |

This is one of the major problems of prtecting Colombo from LTTE attacks. Most of these lodges are either belong to LTTE or its supporters and therefore LTTE can use these for there attacks easily.
Innocent Tamils coming to Colombo from N or E for personal or official work must have a place to stay and therefore government must have an alternative if they want to close these lodges. On the oether hand other lodges must cooperate with the government to find a reasonable solution to this. |
