Tamils are the pepole lived in lanka even before sinhalse came. there are lots of evidence in all parts of the country. when Viya arrived there was 5 hindu temples in all coners in sri lanka, Anyway i dont want to argue this matters, bcz its useless.

But surely its part of the key to the problem? There is a dispute between the majority and a minority about who owns the land. If it cannot be conclusively proven that the land belongs to one particular group, then its just a matter of saying I think its mine so I will take it by force.

there pepole have equal rights as others and they have been made citizen of the countires in few years time, but in lanka the up country pepole are living more than 150 years m,any dont have citizenship

In my mind this is/was wrong - even if the original Tamils brought in were not given citizenship, their children should have been.

But are you also saying that if you are treated the way the asians in UK are treated, that you would give up on the war?

Key to change any outdated system, society is education. But today English is the preferred media to access the education. So English as the language of practice in SL must be promoted

Agreed.
If we all speak Tamil there would not be any war in Sri Lanka. lol.
I meant one language policy :O)

Jacob,

Look at the street names, some govt application/ other printed notices, some only in sinhala and english.

Things are changing, but slowly. Because SL has a very conservative society (both tamils and Sinhalese). But rate of change is not that high to observe visible change over weeks or months. But if you compare, for example 1980 and 2007, you can see a huge change in society. Today you can do most of the things in English, specially in colombo.

What need is to accelarate this trend.

Teaching most things in english would be good. But either both or one of Sinhala and Tamil should be compulsory, so that our culture is not lost. Also a lot of money needs to be spent on making sure the poor who dont know english are not disadvantaged.

It is not jealousy. it is pure stupidity. if we stick to English, nobody is going to say :

'yo, dis ma homy land foh tamil-english', 'hey buddy, dis aren't homy foh ya, dis foh sinhala-englis'

:)

Sin,

No need to make anything compulsory, make it optional and liberate the society to decide what they want to do. Also stop teaching religions at school. Let religious institutions to do that. So people are free to learn what is good for them.

Mr Sin/ FL
what you are saying now happen in early days after independence, It has change. Now you are talking about the old system. its good. during those days the jobs held by tamils were higers than the sinhalse when you compare the percentage of tamils popultaion, so the edcated sinhlses were jelous bcz there were less shinhales in top jobs. BUT NOW things have changed, there are high educated pepole from all communties , muslims/shinalses/tamils. If they bring the old system on education and govt jobs its great and now possible. But mahinda/JVP wont allow
