Salaries of presidential advisors and coordinating secs. disclosed
The government pays out Rs. 820,000 per month as salaries to the 25 advisors to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Rs. 246, 410 to his coordinating secretaries and also mobile phone and fuel allowances.
Among them Ven. Matale Amarawansa Thera, Jayantha Danapala, Jayaratne B.Wijekoon, Hareendra Vidanage, Ven.Walpola Piyananda Thera, Gamini Gunaratne, Manju Hattotuwa and Anura Solomons work as presidential advisors on an honorary basis. Only Sajin Vass Gunawardane works as a coordinating secretary to Mr. Rajapaksa on an honorary basis.
This disclosure was made to Parliament yesterday by Chief Government Whip Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, in response to a question raised by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake.
Opposition leader of the Colombo Municipal Council, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, has also worked as a presidential advisor with a monthly salary of Rs. 60,000 and with a mobile phone allowance of Rs. 7500.
Lakshman Jayakody, Ronnie De Mel, Sunimal Fernando, Dhammika Amarasinghe, Rohan Weerasinghe and Daya Upali Hewavitarana are other advisors who are each paid Rs. 60,000 per month.
Former Education Minister Richard Pathirana was appointed as an advisor with a salary of Rs. 30,000. As for the ten coordinating secretaries, the government pays each of them Rs.30,000 per month as salaries, excepting Kitsisri Ganganath Abeygunawardane who is paid a quarterly allowance of Rs. 6410 and Mr.Gunawardane who works on honorary basis.
