Tigress

are you trying to say the peace talks should go on while there is a full scale war

The IC only knows how it was trying to arrange the peace talks. Certainly, peace talks will make more sense when there is no fighting.

could you please tell me how many Muslim constituencies are there in the east

What do you mean Muslim constituencies?

Abdul salaam , you want to hear what is sweet to your ears. :)) living is lot better than
getting shot?( I'm talking in terms of the civilian casualties)

Do you want to hear what is not sweet to your ears?

The statement you made was not only irresponsible but also insensitive.

OK, you at one stage told me that you wanted to be
recognized as a Muslim, not as Tamil or sinhalese but MUSLIM.

I still do and I will always do, God Willing

again Abdul salaam, you wanted to hold the Muslim identity and you do not want
the north and east merged as one province.
in what ground , you oppose to that proposal? so again, you are as a Muslim what the solution
you would like to propose? if you do not know, you should not oppose the merger of the
north and east , am i right Abdul salaam?

As I have said more than once earlier, I am opposed to the merger of the North & East because it is blatantly unjust for Tamils who are less than 10% of the population to have control of one-third the land and two-third the coast of a small country like Sri Lanka. Secondly, Non-Tamils in the East are the majority and how can they be forced to become under a Tamil Administration? It becomes even more unacceptable when the Tamils of the East are also against the merger.

Is it just and fair that the East should be merged only because it is the demand of the Terrorists from the North?

A major debate on solution is whether the North and East should be merged. On this point I have clearly explained my position.

What form a solution should take is a matter for discussion. This will essentially involve devolution of powers where I have no fixed ideas on the extent or type of devolution. On this, there is a plethora of opinion from all sides but even the All Parties Committee could not agree on its final report. So, this vexed problem has to be resolved through discussion.

I hope I have made myself clear and there is no further need to go over this again and again.

You reminds me a Tamil leader who want to make slippers from Sinhalese people's skin - Cook and bull story teller
It was Mrs. Amirthalingam, I think. ? AnuD

During 1977 elections Mrs. Amirthalingam said she wanted to swim in sinhalese blood. The slippers story may be different.

One sinhalese politicians narrated the whole speech in the parliment subsequently (may be 1979, 80) and it was recorded in the hanzard too.

Very good point! I don't think having a separate country for Tamils will solve majority of Tamil's problems as more than half of Tamils live outside North and East. Some of these racist Tamils are very vocal about their demands but fail to recognize other communities basic rights. Lot of Muslims and Sinhalese were chased out from North by LTTE and their homes were robbed.

Tigress19,

It would be nice indeed, to have the luxury of picking and choosing the team and battlefield strategies of your enemy, not to mention their uniforms.

On a lighter note, during the World Cup Cricket, the Aussies were attempting to select the Sri Lankan team. They wanted SL to play the brilliant Murali (the smiling assassin with the ball) in an irrelevant match to them.

Anyway, I guess in this case Sri Lanka will continue to play the other Murali for some time to come, in the hope that he and his followers will fully embrace the true traditions of democracy and non-violence; working towards the fulfillment of legitimate Sri Lankan Tamil aspirations by participating & contributing to the future economic, political, social and cultural development in which all Human Rights can be fully realized.

I understand this may be a nightmare scenario for Mr Chillcott and his terror friendly constituency.
