Navy Commodore challenges court martial verdict

The Navy Commodore who was the Commander ? southern naval area at the time of the LTTE attack on Galle harbour in October last year, yesterday filed a Writ application challenging the verdict, order and sentence of the court martial that inquired into the attack on the harbour.
Commodore T.M.J. Mendis claimed the court martial and its verdict were designed to deprive him of his rightful seniority at the behest and dictates of persons with vested interests.He said, notwithstanding the fact that a recommendation had been made by the Navy Promotion Board, a few days prior to the said attack, that he be promoted to the rank of Temporary Rear Admiral with effect from October 1, 2006, the verdict had been used as a pretext to deprive him of the promotion.
He also claimed he was the senior most commodore in the executive branch of the Navy and was entitled to be promoted to the rank of Temporary Rear Admiral.
He was appointed on September 25, 2006 as the Commander ? Southern Naval Area primarily comprising the bases Nipuna at Boosa, Dakshina at Galle and Ruhuna at Tangalle.
On October 18, last year, five LTTE boats disguised as returning fishing boats attempted to enter the Galle harbour.....

If this guy lives in other country he must be hung. As a commander if he can't protect a peaceful city like Galle even after receiving the information that terrorits were coming to attack the Galle habour he could not defend the habour. Now he wants his promotion. See the calibre of some senior brass of SLN..
