Rajapaksa's statement is puzzling in the light of Sri Lanka's heavy dependence on foreign aid to finance its annual budgets.
In the annual budget for 2007, the foreign financing component was LKR 235,038 million.($ 2.1 billion). And it had been going up steadily. In 2005, it was LKR 175,268 million ($1.5 billion) and in 2006, LKR 218,185 million ($1.9 billion). |

If you think the East is under GoSL control just like Colombo why is the East not safe for Karuna or even the Ministers of the GoSL not to mention foreign deligates.

so judging by this, newyork must be under the control of the alquida.

| Tamil nadu pepole should know this. Sri Lankan boat has fired on a Maldivian dhoni well inside Maldivian waters, according to crew of the Maldivian vessel.
Sixteen people were on board MV Tuna, a fishing dhoni from Villingilli in Gaaf Alif atoll. One of the crew told Minivan Radio they saw an unknown boat entering Gaaf Alif waters with a Sri Lankan flag just after midday on Wednesday.
As the dhoni approached the boat, the Sri Lankan vessel fired a succession of warning shorts. Members of the dhoni crew called the coastguard, who have dispatched a team to Gaaf Alif.
There are unconfirmed reports the dhoni has followed the Sri Lankan vessel, but it is no longer possible to contact crew members.
Ministry of Defence spokesman, Mr Waheed, confirmed ?a coastguard operation is ongoing.? But Waheed said ?I am unable to give further information until the operation is completed.?
In recent months, conflict between Sri Lankan and Maldivian fishermen have contrasted with the cordial diplomatic relations that exist between the two countries.
In April, the Sri Lankan Sunday Times reported on angry protests by local fishermen against an agreement made by the Sri Lankan government to allow Maldivian vessels to fish in some of their waters.
When the Sri Lankan President visited the Maldives in February, there was talk of a reciprocal agreement to allow Sri Lankans access to sections of Maldivian water, but it was angrily opposed by Maldivian fishermen and nothing has come of it yet.
