Special Forces of SLA have fought many battles and emerged victorious in almost all of them in the Eelam War 4. At one time during the siege to Vakarai, SLA ground forces found it difficult to advance due to heavy LTTE resistance. They had succeeded in breaching 1st and 2nd LTTE forward defence lines but could not penetrate the third. In the meantime, SLA troops could observe a group of shadowy figures stealthily crossing the Vakarai lagoon. These were none other than Special Forces units preparing for an assault on the Vakarai town center. After a few minutes, 40 highly trained and heavily armed Special Forces units carried a legendary amphibious assault on Vakarai town center causing the defending LTTE units to flee in chaos. The operation lasted for mere 5 minutes but it marked the end of a successful campaign for SLA and a crushing defeat for the terrorists.

LTTE has created a situation where the North Eastern people are unable to lead a peaceful life, say Rajan Hoole and Gopalasingam Sritharan, both winners of international awards for human rights. In an interview to Daily Mirror news paper, they further expressed that if a larger group of people had actively challenged the LTTE, the Tamil Community would not be in a pathetic state, as it is today. They had to face death within their own houses and as such they fled to unknown places. Those live in the North and East at present face untold difficulties between two armies. During the early stages of the struggles there prevailed a sense of collective destiny, but the subsequent actions of individual oppression made people to be frustrated. The common population did not benefit out of LTTE actions.

PM Amza, the Sri Lankan deputy high commissioner in Chennai, has become the focus of criticism. Pro-LTTE groups in the state see Amza as an intelligence officer whose mandate is to foster anti-LTTE sentiments in Tamil Nadu. There have been reports that Amza was meeting Muslim clerics in Tamil Nadu and asking them to instigate Muslims in the state against the LTTE.
