Eastern province had vast areas or vacant land thus suitable for settlements which was open to all races
vacant land or chased away lands. I agree there were lot of lands to do culitvations in the east, but these settelments were for political resons.Tamils/muslims in the east were doing well in paddy production even before these settlemts. Its not new, its been happaning last 50 years.
paddy prodution in 1864
west province 105,66 bush shells
north west 444,217 bush shells
south 820,750 bush shells
north 856,182 bush shells
east 881,855 bush shells.
Gov now wated to chase away the tamils from trinco and make it sinhala area too,

There is one big different between tamils settling in south and sinhala colonies in the east.

We felt it. We felt it badly.

We had to quit trinco, our houses, acres of paddy fields becuase of the violence by the sinhala settlers.

did you all leave colombo because of the violence of the tamils ?

in theory its nice talking about global villages.

In reality that is not the case. Many tamil villages were forcibily evicted, and in the place sinhalese were settled.

There is one big different between tamils settling in south and sinhala colonies in the east.

Sinhalese are settled in large numbers in the East and North with Govt sponsorship in order to change the ethnic ratios of Sinhalese to Tamil speaking people. For example in 1946 the Sinhalese made up of just 6% in the East but now it's shot up 32%.

Tamils buy their homes with their money in the South that too is non-existant in the deep South like Tissamaharagame and Ambalantota where their properties and businesses are confiscated by the locals after 1983 anti-Tamil riot. Because of security and SLA occupation of the North and East people flee to India and Colombo thus Tamils are seen in Colombo in larger numbers, which is temporary as they will move back to their own homes once the army and the murderous paramilitaries evacuate NE.

Mirror story on Jaffna youths, fabricated, says Rights Group

Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna Officials refuted in strongest terms, the Colombo based Daily Mirror front page report Wednesday claiming that parents in Jaffna handed over 200 children to them, fearing abduction by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), quoting a former HRC member, Jaffna HRC sources said.

The former member is a Sinhalese who wanted to demean LTTE in the light of bad publicity on the Human Rights Violations of the State forces. Also Karuna Group who operates only in East was included to confuse the national and international comunity.

This is a good sign. We must protect these children. Is there any possibility to transfer these children to south so that they can live in more peaceful environment.

Trumpet net says only 72 are under the protective Custody.

In the mean time, it contradicts what it says in the title and the first paragraph.

Mirror story on Jaffna youths, false, says Rights Group

TamilNet, Wednesday, 16 May 2007, 20:58 GMT

Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna Officials dismissed as blatant lie, the Colombo based Daily Mirror front page report Wednesday claiming that parents in Jaffna handed over 200 children to them, fearing abduction by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), quoting a former HRC member, Jaffna HRC sources said.
Nothing of this nature has ever happened but more than 72 youths and young family men have sought safety with HRC Jaffna and placed in the protective custody in Jaffna prison in the recent past for fear of their lives in the hands of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and the paramilitary men collaborating with them.

The HRC officials also said that three youths under 18 from Kodikaamam area have been recently placed by them in the protective custody in Jaffna prison for the same reason.

This is a vile attempt to disrepute LTTE, civil society sources in Jaffna said
