This page is created as a tribute to H R Jothipala, a singer with unique talent and abilities who raised to the top of the Sinhala music arena from humble beginnings.
In the early parts of 1950s, H R Jothipala recorded his first song titled `Mage Ran Raajini` and became an instant hit. Before recording this song, Jothi had a single lyric `Thotiyo` in the background of Wasantha Sandanayaka`s song - `Mahaweli Nadiyee.` Jothi entered into an unparalleled career of Film background singing by recording `Siriyaa Me Sara` for `Surathali` in the latter parts of 1950s and continued to record songs for Sinhala Films until his untimely death on July 07, 1987.
Born as the first child of a middle-classed family from Southern Sri Lanka, Jothi had a natural talent for vocalising songs. The numerous songs he recorded for films, cassettes, LPs, and CDs, have created so many Hits and were well received by the fans of all ages ? sinhalajukebox
I have listed two singers before, M.S. Fernando & Freddie Silva. The reason was their songs were enjoyed by all of us, irrespective of race, creed or caste. Jothi falls in to this category too. His songs such as `Mama Gannemi Karakara` and `Unata Koththamalli Dunna Rosa` were popular among Tamils.
I put this clip `Etha dilisena hiru sandu` due to having the original voice of Jothi. It is difficult to find a Jothi clip with his original voice although it is available aplenty in MP3 format.
Dedicated to JR who also posted his songs, zaharan and all other Jothi lovers at LNP.

Bonggo,
Thanks macho for the dedication and yet another classic hit by the legend.
This song I believe is the one in hindi 'mere rani sapu ayekithu, aye rupu nathi aye kithu' if I spelt that correctly. One of my school mates can do the mouth organ very nicely for this. I adore this hit almost forgotten that Jothy had this hit in his bank :)
Penn,
Yeah, the Hindi hit was a very popular one. I remember those in the latter part of 70s when I was in school I adored that and was humming the tune :0)

Mark Living Son,
Moragey Sinduwa
Neha macho, words tikak deepang.
Penn,
Yes Jothi has acted in many movies too. His voice is not smooth but as you said very rich. Expresses the feelings very well, let it be a sad or happy occasion. Big contrast, 'Mey Nonimena Divi Gamaney' and 'Sihina Ahasey Vasanthey' demonstrate his versatality. |

Honey,
No problem, wellington boots suit them. I did not spot it until you pointed out because I normally look at those faces, not legs :)) Edited By - Bonggo - 2 May 2007 20:39:07 GMT |
