neighboring India has 40% literacy rate compared to 92% lit rate, we have some of the highest educated youth...the problem is endemic to the south too...so do not expect a miracle. The country is a small poor country...and you cant expect everything and anything here...
sri lanka compared has one of the highest standard of living in the south asian region. social index in UN for sri lanka is higher than India!
we are a poor nation that has done everything to help people . although the opportunities are not there for all equally...due to preferences..either social/education/or other...our country is better than most of the bunch...
if not How can a Tamil who collected recycled bottles rise up to the top to become one of the richest men in the country (Maharaja group). Come to colombo and look around and see the prosperity enjoyed by millions of tamils and sinhalese alike.
no one is keeping people hostage working in the hill country, if they want to come find better paying jobs so be it. There is free movement for all outside of NE.
Do not believe in LTTE bs about how hard it is for tamils...
I was in a bus today and few tamil brethren got in and started speaking tamil and were joined by sinhalese who spoke tamil as well. ....I thought that was very nice

Do you consider them as Sri lankans ?? No.. It's easy to see that Buddhas virtues disappeard in Sri lanka, after the Sri lankan govt decision to take back the nationality to the tea plantation workers, the religion was used for political use. As claiming like JHU that Buddha said that all the island belonged to the Buddhists and must be for all the time. Don't dream , welcome in Ceylon slavery Tea makers.

Hard work and determination.
Do you know why we had communal riots almost every 5-7 years from 56-83?
Sinhalese want wealth without breaking a sweat, looting was a easy way to get there and jealousy fueled this.
This is why I laugh when people call Tamils coolies? May be the first generation was, I don't know but the next generation are reputed professionals. They have not lost the will to succeed. |

I agree that it is over the top still its not offensive. See the other writings, even moderates turn to be extremists.
I use a rule of thumb and ignore postings thats over the top unless it really pisses me off. |

Tamils can do anything? Let's not classify Tamils and LTTE in the same rut.
Al Queida can also do a lot of things.The world including Pentagon is not 100% secure. There is nothing call 100% security.
BUT THE QUESTION IS WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED FOR TAMILS (AT LEAST SRILANKAN TAMILS) DURING THE LAST TWO DECADE?
