Lankan News Replies

The Air Force yesterday rejected reports on the pro-LTTE Tamilnet website that an SLAF Kfir Jet was shot down by the LTTE in the Iranamadu area during an air raid.

`The Air Force totally denies such reports and it is yet another `fabricated` story,` Air Force Spokesman Ajantha Silva said.

The Media Center for National Security said all aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force had returned to their bases following their routine reconnaissance and other strike missions over Tiger held areas and none of them was reported missing.

Meanwhile, the LTTE claimed a Sri Lanka Air Force jet fighter was attacked by its air-defense system when the bomber approached the airfield of the Tamileealm Air Force in Iranaimadu around 2:30 p.m yesterday. The Tamilnet website quoted LTTE military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan as saying that the SLAF bomber had plunged into the sea, following a loud explosion.

The LTTE, which has conducted three air raids on military locations in the country, today warned the Sri Lankan government of more air strikes on military installations.

Tiger spokesperson Rasiah Ilanthirayan told a news agency, `The government`s continuing military push against the insurgents is forcing them to strike back.`

Tiger air craft bombed the Katunayake Air Force Base in the first attack a month ago. Later, they bombed Jaffna. The latest attack was on the Kolonnawa oil refinery yesterday morning.

This is going to be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong argument, which will be a very difficult one to prove, without sufficient evidence.

We are in to a long day if not to a long week. LOL

reports on the pro-LTTE Tamilnet website that an SLAF Kfir Jet was shot down by the LTTE in the Iranamadu area during an air raid.

Tamilnut says that unconfirmed reports claim the KFIR didn't return to base.

The Tamilnet website quoted LTTE military spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan as saying that the SLAF bomber had plunged into the sea, following a loud explosion.

This is about the MIG.

Can't wait to see what happened to the Air Force crow which the LTTE presumably shot down too!

Tamilnut can say anything.

The bottom line is we have to maintain those machines very well.

WE cannot afford to lose machines for mechanical failures.

Saint bro that is why I am not arguing ;)

here are two options:

a) Mig shot down and Kfir damaged

b) Nothing happened.

Time will tell what occured, maybe c) somewhere in between ;)

Whether MIG27 was shot down or not, GOSL will give only one answer Nothing happend, because GOSL cannot affort to let morale of armed forces and people go down any further

If the flight with smoke was noticed in kilinochi, then it should have been noticed in the Anurathapura as well. You cannot hide this for long
may be damaged fligt managed to land in anurathapura

The 'Tamilnet' claim cannot be believed. Because it is confusing how they have reported it. See the following reports; time LTTE has attacked, type of air victim crafts.

LTTE: Sri Lankan MIG-27 jet fighter shot down
- Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) jet fighter was shot down by Liberation Tigers air-defense system when the bomber approached the airfield of the Tamileelam Air Force (TAF) in Ira'naimadu Monday around 2:30 p.m.,

Time is 2:30 pm and victim is a MIG

Sri Lanka Air Force's (SLAF's) aircraft on a bombing raid south of Ira'naimadu in Vannai around 2:45 p.m. spewed large cloud of smoke after a explosion and the jet suspended the bombing raid struggling to maintain height, traders in Kilinochchi who saw the troubled aircraft said. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports from Colombo said a Israeli-built fast attack Kfir which took off from Katunayake Air Force base Monday has failed to return to the base.

Time is 2:45 pm (almost same as above report) and victim is a K-fir
