Still other than TamilNet and other pro-LTTE sites, no other news agency picked up this story it seems. Usually they report anything TamilNet publishes as 'Rebels said', isn't it?

| Mig down or not. This is high time for SLAF to re-coordinate their objectives and strategies. SLAF is the most lethal force to the LTTE. And they will take whatever means to destroy SLAF capabilities and SLAF should do whatever means to destroy immediate threats from the LTTE. |

Sri Lanka's rebels claim hit on military jet
AFP
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels said on Monday that they hit a military war plane on a bombing mission over their territory with anti-aircraft fire.
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) said they attacked the Israeli-built Kfir jet on Monday as it flew over the rebel-held Kilinochchi district, but that the aircraft was not shot down.
'Our anti-aircraft unit confirms attacking a Kfir jet over Kilinochchi,' the rebel's spokesman, Rasiah Ilanthiriyan, said by telephone from the area, which lies 330 kilometres north of Colombo.
'The aircraft did not fall within our territory,' he said.
But the Sri Lankan military denied that an aircraft had been hit. It said all military aircraft were safe.
'Tamil Tigers had dreamt of a Sri Lankan air force Kfir jet being shot over Iranamadu,' the defence ministry said in a statement.
Sri Lankan jets have been bombing inside rebel-held territory on a regular basis since April last year.
The rebels have launched their own air attacks recently, using light aircraft to bomb military and civilian targets over the last month.

I'm not talking about colombo media, I am talking about BBC,AP, Reuter.
I'm not talking about GoSL or MoD, for your info MoD has already issued a news item on this one.
Maybe the difficulty in digesion is due to the unsettled nature of the news itself. First it was a KFir then it's a Mig. First it was around 3PM then it was at 2.30PM. First it spew lot of smoke and struggled to maintain height, then following a loud explosion, went down into the sea.
Maybe colombo media is waiting for the news item to settle. LOL |

OK it seems like AFP picked it up..
This Mr.Ilandariya seems to be an amazing guy..
'Our anti-aircraft unit confirms attacking a Kfir jet over Kilinochchi,' the rebel's spokesman, Rasiah Ilanthiriyan, said by telephone from the area, which lies 330 kilometres north of Colombo.
'Our auto activated air-defence-system attacked the Sri Lanka Air Force MIG-27 bomber when it approached Ira'anaimadu airfield on a bombing mission,' Ilanthirayan said claiming responsibility for the attack.
Is it a Kfir OR Mig? |

revy ,
while i'm glad to know that i have your vote i'd be lying if i said i wasnt curious why i had a tiger symapthisers vote! care to shed some light on the reason??
That's an easy one, even if you are on the other side so to speak your posts so far show a reasonable fellow who can argue his view point like a human being. So I am not averse to a good debate.
Contrast with some of our less mentaly astute members:
come on buddy, you know, I know and eveybody know that Tamils came to Sri Lanka as Coolies for British.
then they start cleaning toilets, collecting bottles, newspaper, sheet metal as their occupation.
it is pretty amazing, that you guys develop to so called rebels and asking land, property here and there
now you coolies need more gay rights in sri lanka, isn't it.
yeah...moving on... so more people like you as seniors would be better for all concerned. Edited By - Revy - 30 Apr 2007 17:18:19 GMT |
