No compensation for Saudi victims
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 - 4:07 AM SL Time

The Sri Lanka government has ruled out paying compensation to the families of those beheaded in Saudi Arabia.

`The government ought to have a clear compensation policy,` Minister in charge of Foreign Employement and Media, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardhana told BBC Sandeshaya.

It would be a `bad precedence` to offer compensation to those who `discredited the name of the country`, the minister said.

DD Ranjith Silva, Sanath Pushpakumara, Victor Corea and Shamal Sangeeth Kumara were beheaded by the sword in Riyadh on 19 February.

Three of them were sentenced to death but Shamal Sangeeth Kumara was only sentenced to 15 years.

This is not fair on the victims. They are no more and such an action will no way do earn any good for the Govt. and it is a double blow for the families of the victims for not providing any compensation.

Why was the fourth man, Shamal, also executed?

Compansations *SHOULD BE* given to the victims. The victims have nothing to do with the said crimes those accused have done.

Even those family memebers had pleaded so much to the govrnment to have a fair trial but no body wanted to involve.

It could be true that those executed were really doing some crimes & roberies but Arabia attitude on those people was stunning and its not fair at all.

Government MUST give some sort of compansations to the victims.

This is typical Islam law. They beheaded even the one who was sentence for 15 years. In Arabia, you dont have rules prevailing in the jails/police/prisons. Not only that, Arabia never allowed these trials in public, all done in HIDDEN / closed chambers.

Yes . No Compensation. GOSL has no money to pay compensation. We have to buy jets and submarrines.

Why pay for criminals.

They thought every country is like Sorry Lanka.
Guess they found out the hard way.

Following the recent fatal accident at Galle, some good for nothing ministers of MR govt. were very prompt in blaming the beer company and asking the company to pay compensation to victims. They demonised beer and the beer making company for short term political mileage. I wonder if they drink urine instead of beer.
Now the govt is saying no compensation to families of 4 hard working slankans who had been sending forex to Slanka for years through hard work just to keep the country afloat, to buy weapons, to buy medcine, to buy you name it.
The government has lost not only its head but also soul.

Is having sex a crime punishable by death in Sri-Lanka?

It is a crime punishable by death is SA.

So if this happens will the govt pay compensation? If it doesn't what actions have the government taken to discourage this happening?

This pseudo-government doesn't even compensate it's own people in it's own land killed by it's own forces.

Why would they compensate those who died elsewhere?

The fact is that, the four victims are registered with the SLBFE and they are liable to be compensated.

Whatever the reasons behind the execution doesn't mean that the families of them suffer as well.

I'm sure that an appeal will definitely go out to MR so that the decision could be reveresed to the best interest of all.
