Sri Lanka's tourism industry, which blossomed in the wake of a 2002 ceasefire, has fallen victim to the resumption of the country's long-running civil war
i believe in long term solutions not short term stuff...
so i think we really don't have to break our heads over this
this is for ppl who wants to create news just to show that they have a new news item...

Ministers helpless due to brother Gotabaya- Johnston
(LeN-2007 April 09, 7.10 pm) UNP Kurunegala district parliamentarian Johnston Fernando says the ministers are faced with severe inconveniences due to the acts of the Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapakse and that they are unable to move even a step against him as he is president's brother.
Speaking to the media from the opposition leaders official residence he said though the government is currently slinging mud towards the UNP stating that the LTTE brought down air craft during the UNP regime, former President Chandrika Kumaratunga set up anti air craft missiles around the temple trees and president's house in 1995 knowing the threat of such air attacks. He said not only the security forces but even the average civilian knew that LTTE possessed air craft and that the defense secretary should be held responsible for the Katunayake attack as he once said during a press conference that although the air port doesn't fall under his purview he will protect it.
Fernando said that Gotabaya Rajapakse who is alleged with financial mishandling by Sripathi Suriarachchi and Mangala Samaraweera, has not adhered to his responsibilities as the air craft purchased with his influence doesn't have the ability of attacking a target which is air borne but only has the ability to attack something that's on ground.
The UNP parliamentarian added that the Mahinda Chinthanaya never mentioned anything about appointing president?s brothers as defense secretary and presidential advisor. He also charge that the government is spending thumping amounts of money for war and are attempting to keep the country?s security as a family matter.
He also said that 5 police officers have been suspended after the Ampara bus bomb but said that no one has been touched or accused for the massive Katunayake attack. Johnston Fernando said the ministers and the officers of the government and security forces are covering up the attack as it could easily fall into the account of the defense secretary. According to him this is the most corrupt post independent government.
The MP said that the defense secretary should go back to the country which he is a citizen for the past 10 years if he cannot take up the responsibility for the Katunayake attack.
Fernando finally said that the opposition will do its utmost to chase away the corrupted government with the support of the public after May. Edited By - Berty - 9 Apr 2007 14:46:43 GMT |

Hi Joseph,
A great post!
As we all understand, there is no need for a war at all. LTTE has artificially created a war and maintaining the same. If there was no war and if the institutional corruption in Sri Lanka was eliminated, it would be another dreamland.
LTTE was started to protect the sumggellers of goods from India. However, then politicians thought this is a great way to be in power and brought in ethnic and a struggle face. Then Indira Ghandhi saw it as another opportunity to suppress speedier development of the country and helped the terrorism to prosper. Then the Churches saw this as another great opportunity to convert both Hindus and Christians. So, then they started to support the terrorist movement.
During the process, Prabhakaran sworn to be killed if he abandoned EELAM. Now he has to hang on to dear life by not abondaning the EELAM.
Hundreds and thousands of innocent people are paying the price of those who had ulterior motives.
If someone was born in the North of East 25 years ago, that person has lived in conflict zone with lack of opportunities and education. It has all been denied to them by the LTTE.
Now that person has no hopes for future, but only thing that can be done is to be an LTTE Suicide Bomber.
Willingly or un-willingly Tamil expats give money to LTTE. That money is an important part that fuel LTTE. It gives power for LTTE to destroy more and more lives (lives of all ethnicities).
Whole world is finding ways to unite. They know that the strength is in unity. The European Union is a great example. They have millions of differences, opinions, policies and preferences. However, they all working things out for common benefits.
EELAM is not the answer to poverty in SL. Union is the answer. Every ethnicity and religion should co-exist and work towards a united Sri Lanka, perhpas a united South East Asia. Until we are divided and fighting everyone will lose. Now mainly the Tamils in the North and the East are losing.
Expatriates can cut funding to LTTE. This will make a dramatic change to the lives of common people in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Then they can again go to schools without fear, get jobs, earn a living ..and live peacefully as they live peacefully with the others in the south. |
