'thank you Emp and Revy. It is indeed nice when one sees reason. All these writers who insult the President should thank VP, as he was the one who prevented Tamls from voting. All those who support VP really think that they will be able to live under a democratic leader. Dream on. But hMR was voted when VP is not. Please do not think that only one race suffer. All races are suffering due to this unwanted war. People seem to be just blood thirsty. Only thing is MR could be got rid of by democratic means but not VP. I hope eyes will be opened on both sides and this unnecessary carnage will stop and we all can live like brothers and sisters. As you all know there is nothing to prevent from getting govt jobs, or housing in the South. I really feel sorry for VP's son who will die an early death if he too gets involved in this unholy war.' Tigy,
The problem is either side is not compromising. Pirapa thinks NE is his own legacy while the innocent tamils have to be suppressed under his torture dictatorship. MR is a corrupted leader who would not take anything for granted.
Take torture and corruption aside there are lot of people who would like to live peacefully.

Late President's grandson threatened by existing president's security men
(LeN-2007 April 07, 11.15 am) It is being reported that a grand son of late President J.R. Jayawardena has been subjected to an investigation after entering his house by force charging him of being an LTTE ally. It is being reported to LeN that the reason behind this is that Ambrich Jayawardena was subjected to this because he didn't let a vehicle that was traveling along with Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse to overtake him.
According to reports Jayawardena had been arriving home a group of vehicles had shouted at him saying that he did not make way to the vehicle parade of the Defence secretary. He too has shouted back at them.
When Jayawardena was entering his house a group of security personnel of Gotabaya Rajapakse had entered his house by force saying that 'J.R. Jayawardena is a dead president and we are the security personnel of the living one'. They have then subjected the entire house to a search stating that he was LTTE ally.
As soon as the incident was reported Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP MP John Amaratunga had arrived at Jayawardena's house to look into the matter.
Gotabaya Rajapakse too has called Jayawardena personally and apologized for the mistake committed by his security personnel.
However Jayawardena has also lodged a complain to a nearby police post regarding the incident.
Once before minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle who was traveling to parliament with his vehicle parade came under a similar assault by Gotabaya's security men.
These incidents clearly elaborate that those who careful and don't violate road rules are being harassed by those who violate road rules. Edited By - Berty - 7 Apr 2007 10:30:21 GMT |

A mad dog, threat to journalists
(LeN-2007 April 06, 7.00 pm) Minister of Health and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva has warned journalist that 'they should be vaccinated with something like rabbis'.
He has made the above statement while addressing a ceremony in Colombo organized to mark the International Health day that falls tomorrow.
According to the journalists who were present there the minister had spoken with much aggression and had meant that the journalists in the country are mad like those dogs diseased with rabbis.
He had said that there are several media personnel who are waiting until diseases like Bird Flu enter the island and that he wouldn't let them take advantage of any such situation of that sort.
He said 'there are some media personnel some with grown beards who don't know what they are doing. They try to create pandemonium in the entire state. Though we rare certain animals we need to vaccinate them. We let them enjoy the freedom. Event the media has that freedom. But if they start biting everyone like the mad dogs do then we have to take measures. Therefore like we vaccinate those dog, the time has come to vaccinate media personnel'. Government proposals to see light of day
The long-awaited government proposals for the resolution of the national problem are to be presented to the All Party Representatives Committee (APRC) on May 1, as revealed on Thursday by General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Agricultural evelopment and Agrarian Services Development Minister Maithripala Sirisena. It is propitious that the government has chosen this day being the Vesak Full Moon Day and May Day for presenting this important document.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing held at the Information Department Auditorium, the minister has said that the proposals are based on maximum devolution of power within an undivided country. He also said that the proposals contain a provision for the establishment of a governing system that has an executive prime minister accountable to parliament. These proposals are now said to be before legal experts for their scrutiny. Further details of these proposals will inevitably find their way into media hands. The government?s flexibility and willingness to compromise is evident from the minister?s statement that further steps regarding these proposals will be decided after presenting them to the APRC and obtaining the opinion of all.
The other parties too should follow suit and submit their proposals to the APRC. The UNP, which has been insisting that the government should first present its proposals, could now go ahead with its own proposals. The party could come back to APRC deliberations to consider the whole gamut of proposals before final proposals are formulated. The set of proposals promised by the UNP Democratic Group apparently is not forthcoming. Perhaps the ideas of this group are incorporated in the government package.
The other parties that have reportedly been preparing their proposals should also finalise them and submit to the APRC. The proposals of the JVP and JHU are eagerly awaited. Although the JVP has withdrawn from the APRC process, it is obliged to make its proposals known. Even if the government succeeds in vanquishing the LTTE as desired by these parties, the need for a political solution to the problem will remain to be satisfied.
Of course, if they are prepared to acquiesce in the government proposals that are said to be in conformity with Mahinda Chinthana to which these parties had subscribed, then there is no need for them to submit different proposals. Karuna Amman is also reported to be getting ready with his proposals. Hasn?t the TNA got any proposals to make? Even though it is not a party participating in the APRC process, there is no bar to its submission of proposals at least for the general public to know what their intentions are.
What all these concerned parties have to decide is whether they should prolong the country?s agony any longer by persistently clinging on to their attitudes and postures uncompromisingly or instead should contribute to ending it by being magnanimous enough to assist in the process of finding a reasonable political solution to the problem. If they fail to pursue the latter path, the people of this country will be condemned to live for a long time with the ongoing scourge of bloodletting, abductions, disappearances and other nasty deeds.
The present season of religious and cultural events seems ideal to make an honest reappraisal of our past acts of omission and commission and get on to a new path. Time has come for the national leaders and the people to commit themselves to pursuing core values of democracy and concepts of human rights. Democracy, as we have learnt in our rudimentary civics lessons in school, is a way of life, besides being a method of government. Democracy demands respect for basic human rights and freedoms and equality. Every citizen should have the right to live in dignity and with equal opportunities for developing his or her talents and abilities irrespective of religious, ethnic or other differences.
It is indeed to constructing a society where above features prevail that all our political parties are committed. These parties, therefore, are bound to extend their support and cooperation to the effort that is being made to accomplish the above objective. Edited By - Berty - 7 Apr 2007 10:34:55 GMT |

The new stadium in Ranna village in the southern district of Hambantota, which is also the home constituency of President Mahinda Rajapakse, will host international matches.
MR will build a million dollar bunker next to the stadium for him & his family so that he can host international matches from inside the Bunker |
