'The European Union has decided to defer a resolution accusing Sri Lanka of human rights violations.'

The mini air attack on SLAF and TC's further 'threats' must have opened the eyes of the EU. They know what terrorism can deliver.

Well done Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe.

Failed State Index?????? Anyone with year 1 Economics knowledge should know that you can develop an index to show what you want based on selected variables.

But, internationally accepted indices are used by ADB, WB, IMF, OECD etc. Based on those SL is far from being a 'failed state'. Yes, without this conflict we could have done better. Even, with the conflict one cannot underestimate the contribution of all Sri Lankans including Tamils.

For example, if we take the air capability as a key variable LTTE will definitely rank as the top terror outfit.

Morawaka

It is a good observation. Yes, credit card spending, car loans and mortgages have been problems for some in many developed countries. It's the way you manage your credit.

The trick is to spend within your means. Ans SL will have to learn this.

Mental disorder

The proper order is that first an 'assylum seeker' and if accepted as oppressed and tortured as in many cases become a 'refuge'.

Mental disorder reverses the order of the process.

TC,

one doesnt have to be a majority to enjoy equal rights

In Singapore Tamils make up of just 4.2% (60% of 7% Indians) but Tamil is one of the 4 official languages.

Moreover a Tami, Dr Nathan, has been the President for last 8 years. A Tamil, Tharman Shanmugaratnam is the No 2 in the Treasury mnext to the PM and he is the Education Minister as well. He is the one who presented the budget in the parliament.

There are other ministers and many Tamils namely in Sports and IT they represted the country in the International Conferences.

No wonder Singapore has achieved the racial harmony to advance as the most prosperous country among the developing nations. In fact it's joining the developed countries.

Hopefully, over the next couple of years in the comfort of a favorable geo-political environment and successful military operations; as well as a political package which addresses needs of all concerned, will ensure the marginalisation of the LTTE which represent the terrorist element of Sri Lankan Tamil politics, with the sole objective of separating the country by the use of brutal terror.

Fighting the LTTE is therefore not the hegemony of the majority or a blow to the Tamil?s effort to seek fairness or even a vein attempt at treating the symptoms rather than the cause, but simply the removal of the obstruction in the way of peace, security and the development of the country today. It simply does not add any value to the just cause of securing Tamil legitimate rights in anyway, nor do they represent the ordinary Tamil folk!

Would you not therefore, agree with the importance of putting down the dog that is suffering from the incurable rabies in the interest of others? Once that?s done, one can move on to create an environment that is unfavorable for such infections to take effect in the future. This is no guarantee of course, but one can only aspire

Morawaka,

The problem with the SL leaders is their inability to learn from the experiences of other countries with ethnic problems. They have resolved to progress in the competitive world whereas we still carry begging bowls with racial prejudices and minority mentality.

India is a poor country with 11000 million people to feed and suffer from false pride founded on past colonial suppression. Still they are able to shelter SL Tamils, East Bengalis (former East Pakistanis) and Nepoleses as the rulers of those countries are inhuman to the extent that these unfortunate people risk their lives to escape persecution in their countries of origin.

Note: India also gave assylum to a well known and noble Buddhist, Dalai Lama who is the living embodiment of Lord Buddha as opposed to the shameful Buddhist bikkus of the calibre of JHU in SL.
