Death of 4 fishermen sparks anger in TN

A diplomatic row has erupted between India and Sri Lanka following Thursday night`s killing of four Indian fishermen when they strayed into Lankan waters and with Tamil Nadu demanding answers from the Central government over the frequent attacks, diplomatic sources told the Daily Mirror.
Two others were also injured in the shooting and were taken ashore for treatment. Indian websites blamed the navy for the incident saying it opened fire without prior warning.
The fishermen had ventured into the sea from Chinnathurai coastal village in Kanyakumari district, officials told PTI.
A diplomatic source said Tamil Nadu chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was furious over the latest attack and was demanding action from the Central government.
`The Navy has said it was not involved and that it was the LTTE. We also don`t feel it was the Navy because it wouldn`t take such a risk at a time the SARRC summit is about to begin. But of course we cannot draw any conclusions at this point so it will have to be probed,` the source told the Daily Mirror.
A Navy delegation is in New Delhi to discuss joint moves to curb LTTE arms procurement from that country as well as allegations the Navy was involved in attacks on Indian fisherman despite the Navy insisting it was the LTTE.
In a report published in the Daily Mirror earlier this week a top Navy official was quoted as saying that although there had been a lot of talk about joint patrolling of the seas by India and Sri Lanka to minimise incidents such as alleged attacks on Indian fisherman such a move was yet to materialise possibly owing to the pressure it will have on Tamil Nadu fishermen who often strayed into Sri Lankan waters for a better catch.
`We are planning a visit to India and we hope to discuss these issues with them`, the official said. The Daily Mirror learns the delegation left for New Delhi this week.
The latest development came despite India saying it had stepped up patrolling in the Palk Bay and in the Gulf of Mannar after the seizure of a LTTE boat packed with explosives.
`We have increased the number of marine commandos in the area,` commanding officer, Commodore P.E. Van Haltren, told the Indian media on Wednesday.
The attack on the Indian fisherman comes as President Mahinda Rajapaksa prepares to leave for New Delhi to attend the 14th South Asian Summit scheduled for April 3 and 4. Apart from attending the SAARC Summit, the President is expected to discuss bilateral issues with South Asian leaders while in New Delhi. At the Sessions, issues relating to the implementation of the SAARC Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), promoting intra regional trade, socio-economic development, and poverty alleviation and curbing terrorism are to be discussed.

' LTTE may have killed Indian fisherman'- Indian naval Chief
- LTTE will kill anyone just to get symphathy but it will bounce back on its head with above statement.
- When LTTE is thrashed all over, they continue to con the civilised world.
- These inhumans who have killed own cadres, who sacrifice kids kidnapped from the arms of parents, who kept weak and feeble tamil women/ babies/ old people as human shields, who hang upside down and torture kids who refuse, who imprison in dog cages, who have created a mass open prison Vanni, who have deprived even animal rights to its fellow tamils.......
will not hesitate to kill anyone for its advantage as all human life should be sacrificed for a most selfish, idiotic, uneducated manic depressive god's dream !!
Even after 70,000 killings he continues to dream !
How lucky are the 500,000 tamils who have escaped to the south to have freedom !!! |

This shows the callous attitude of the SL Navy towards fellow humans, shoot first and and get the promotion later. As usual they can blame LTTE and get away without any investigation.
Even the Sinhala judges and magistrates are against probing the killings of innocents by the SL Security Forces. |

HOW LONG WILL THE SUPPLY OF CHILDREN IN THE NORTH-LAST'? Now that's food for thought.
Yes during peace time Tigers would have got manpower shortage, but now the GOSL state terrorism is there to help the tigers recruitments.
As long as the GOSL state terrorism is active there won't be any shortage in terms of manpower and finance.
The day GOSL SLAF terrorists dropped bombs on civilians, schools, temples, churchs and poor people huts that same day the country got separated In India we never heard that the Indian air force bombed civilians in Kasmir , that is the reality and truth whether we want to accept it or not. Today the country is sleep walking into full separation thanks to the southern illiterates. |

SAUMYA
let me THANK YOU FOR THE ANSWER and save what you said in reply to my Q under my handle too as it might come usefull time to time as if we to have a meaningfull conversation.Let's see. democracy means: - in Greek;- 'rule of the people' There are 4 kinds of democracies:- Liberal democracies, Representative democracies, Direct democracies, and Socialist democracies. Places where Terror-units like LTTE gun around ARE NOT democracies.
Well I'm not surprized that TIGRESS19 doesn't know the meaning of democracy. After all, the LTTE are not democratic; they are anti-islmaic, anti-high caste, anti-eastern Tamil, anti-sinhalese, anti-buddhists fascists.
TIGRESS19, you seem to be a real dimwit, now what has democracy to do with this article? Hmmmm? Are you on drugs?
PARASURAM;- The question is not:- 'HOW LONG CAN YOU HIDE THE TRUTH?'.
It's 'HOW LONG WILL THE SUPPLY OF CHILDREN IN THE NORTH-LAST'? Now that's food for thought.
the next Q is , is there is a rule of democracy in SL? im sure you very well know having just an election is *NOT* DEMOCRACY!! Edited By - tigeress19 - 31 Mar 2007 19:44:35 GMT |
