Mate how many countries today can claim to be Buddhist, which in the very resent past were Buddhist? Buddhism is a very compassionate religion and its followers are very tolerant. This has been the very reason for demise of this religon in many parts of the world, it is the very reason Tamils are still living among sinhalese.
Fortunately for Buddhism, Sinhalese provided a mature culture in which when the limits of tolerance was exceeded by foreign elements, they did not hesitate to retaliate, rather than being passive like what happened in may other countries...
My friend, that is the difference in SL and that's the only reason why Buddhism survived in its most purest form in Sri Lanka for such a long time. (Otherwise Sinhalese would be hindus, muslims or christians by now)
For instance even in China, Buddhism didn't survive the cultural revolution... |

but buddisam in sri lanka is diffrent!
So called budhada tooth in kandy is not a budhha tooth.
Its given by a Jawa black magic man to the king saying it will bring fortune to him, So king Sri vikramarajasinham(the tamil king) was worshiping the tooth, and kept in a secret place, now the budist say that lord budha's tooth. Its the truth. Ask a sri lankan JAWA they will tell u, its JAWA-GA DATHA. bcz the king was a tamil question been raised how he had the budha's tooth, So the story telling historian change the name of the king say Sri wickramarajasinha
